Does drive speed even matter?

Hey,

I'm just wondering.

I made myself a nice PC parts listing, and was interested in getting some decent Christmas deals, so I went looking at my bookmarked listings regarding my parts list.

Unfortunately, the one supplier I had for 3TB 7200RPM HDDs no longer has them in stock and may not be restocking them.

So, I come here with this question: does drive speed really matter in this scenario?

I'm planning to run two larger capacity (3TB for now) hard disk drives on a SATA controller for extra storage.

It's more redundant media and data, stuff I really don't need to access too often.

Are 7200RPM drives really worth it in that regard? Should I just settle for a pair of 5400RPM drives?

No not really. If for only storage it should be fine. But can't you find other 7200RPM's for almost the same price?

5400RPM are fine. I like WD BLUE - they're silent.

I'll probably settle on a pair of Seagate drives to match my existing 2TB, tbh. I have heard good things about Western Digital, though. Thank you for the swift response, bud.

No, unfortunately. I'm having trouble finding exactly what I'm looking for. Closest I could find was an Enterprise level drive for $5 more than both the drives I originally wanted + shipping combined, lol

Don't worry about gaming, I'll have two 2TB SATA SSDs for that.

VIC has all the good stores, PCCG, MSY, UMART, Scorptec, PLE, CPL, Centrecom. You should have local pickup somewhere, so no need for shipping hard drives.

The reason why I mentioned shipping was because all the local stores didn't have the 7200rpm option available (or listed) at all. Even Scorptec. I gave them an email about custom orders but I've since decided on 5400rpms, tbh. I'll be saving $60 anyway

ALL new barracuda's over 2tb are only 5400. basically only 2 drives are available in 7200 from SG,  2tb and 1TB.
