Hello Forums:

I was just wondering what your take is on the FX-9590 processor from AMD. It has a base clock of 4.7GHz and a TDP of 220w. All in all, I just don't see anybody talking about it, or recommending it anywhere. Now, I considered getting this heavily during the debate of my build, yet, I decided that I would need the Hyper-Threading technologies of an Intel Based chip. For those that are hardcore gamers, why don't they go with a processor like this?

Just trying to start a discussion.

Waste of money. It's a cherry picked factory overclocked 8350.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

This, it's price, and that's a lot of power for a CPU.

While I don't know how much power it takes to OC an i5 to say 4.7, I doubt it's near that.

with the money that worth the FX-9590, i would buy a i7-4770k, well it cost a little more, but it not cost so far that the 9590 cost.

I agree with most of you. It's just a factory overclocked 8350 and really isn't worth the extra one hundred dollars. You could get an h100i to cool an 8350 to just about guarantee you the 4.7GHz mark.

What I found really humorous was how at its launch, everybody compared it to the 4960x and said it could contend. No, just because it's marked at the same price, does not mean that it can contend with it whatsoever. I'll search around and see if I can't find a few of those articles, I'm sure looking back it'll be pretty funny.

It's hot as hell, uses hella power, and a waste of money. Also, what the hell was AMD thinking when they released it for 1k?

A 9590 basically ensures you will get a 4.7 - 5.0 ghz 100% stable chip on Prime for 24 hours with no catches. This is something an 8350 wishes it could say if it could talk (I mean you might get lucky). You pay an extra $100 premium for that luxury. Its great if you already have the cooling and the board for it.

Teksyndicate may come out with a video soon hinted in this video

Given the current price point and If the power bill is a non issue, the FX 9590 is the best bang for the buck for any one doing extreme multitasking.  Probably the main reason it doesn't get more recommendations is that there are only a few high end AMD motherboards and they are getting to be a little old.

Kaveri is neat but it dose not satisfy the enthusiasts which are the people making all those recommendations.  Combine that with AMD not road-mapping any thing in the high end tier for 2014 could lead to them being relegated to just low end recommendations for the foreseeable future.

I ran across this article comparing the 9590 to the 4960x in gaming http://www.extremetech.com/computing/170023-amd-vs-intel-the-ultimate-gaming-showdown-5ghz-fx-9590-vs-i7-4960x

Given those numbers I would have no trouble recommending the 9590 for any gamer.

Ive seen loads of people who say they wanted to buy a cpu that was binned so it will do higher clocks and that they would pay more for it.

At $300, just get an 8350 and a H110 and overclock the hell out of it. You'll probably end up saving $50-$100 if you look for a couple deals in the Amazons.
