2060 Super upgrade

Hi,

I currently have a 3700x paired with a Zotac 1660ti, the 1660ti was from my previous pc before i changed to AMD. I was wondering what are people thoughts on me selling the 1660ti and upgrading to a 2060 super, as i would like to do more 1440p/4k gaming rather than 1080p. Is the extra expense worth it or are there better options?

Thank you

Hi,

The 2060 super is barely faster than the 1660ti something like 25-30% at most

what's your current monitor resolution/refresh rate?

I'd suggest just saving up and waiting for like the RX 5800/Nvidia 3070/3080 and buying a new monitor at that point.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Before buying a GPU i will be upgrading my monitor to something like a AOC CQ32G1, a 144hz 1440p 31.5 inch

if u can sell the ti for a good price and pay for the super, it's not a bad idea, though if u can save up til after the console launch next year, even better.

I'd probably go for a 1440p 100-120hz ultra wide display depending on your country/availability, they're cheap in the US anyways.

Otherwise why not just go for a 1080p 240hz display? Depending on the games you play of course.

In any event I would just wait to buy a GPU, as it's going to be expensive to get a meaningful upgrade.

Or wait for RX 5700 sales, because at $299 ish you can just overclock/bios flash it and get close to the 2070 super.

the consoles are rumored to be 4k/60 capable, probably around dedicated 5700xt with a oower efficient  zen 2 cpu,  if you get a 2060S right now, there's a pretty good chance that it'd be equal than a $500 console in 10-11 months. That's why the rumored next gen gpus are likely gonna launch b4 the consoles, they got some distance to cover. Nobody's gonna pay 400 for the 2060S or 500 for the 2070S after those consoles come out.

Nvideas implementation of ray tracing via "RTX", with fixed function hardware (tensor cores) isn't likely going anywhere as game devs have already stopped using it for more universal lighting techniques, techniques like Ray Marching, and a cheaper 5700 is same performance level at better cost and offers significant performance increase if you are willing to tweak it.  If you want a better, but still cheap card go for that.

Wow I really have no money, I really shouldn’t read threads like this.
