Need recommendation for cheapest safe psu

Mister Woof
Go to solution Solved by porina,

Not sure I can find the reference again, but the CX are "better" than the equivalent CXM and usually cheaper. 450W is plenty for the proposed system. Depends on local pricing and availability, but certainly CX450 would be on my shortlist.

Most of my "budget" builds use CX or CXM series.

For a stock 8350k, h310, two SATA drives, 5x fans, and a low to midrange gpu like a 1660/RX 5500.

Doesn't need to be fancy.

Was looking at the Corsair CX450, but even those are like $60.

Obviously if I can't get away with something cheaper I'll go for it.

But open to suggestions.

I would invest a bit more from you'r choice Corsair CX450 and a minimum of 550w.

The Corsair TX-M Series TX550M is a better choice.

450W are okay, this build will consume no more than 150W.

Corsair CX450 are 50$ on Newegg so it's my recommendation too.

See, PSU prices are very weird recently, Corsair CX550\650 doesn't worth 70$, get Phanteks AMP 550W then for 80$, it's top-tier PSU, 550W are enough for almost any gaming build (except for RTX2080 Super \ Ti).

There were Corsair TX550\650 for 70$ which would be a good pick, or Corsair RMx for 80$ also, some other choices like CM MWE Gold for 60-70$ but after recent sales all these units spiked in price, tariffs probably. But Phanteks AMP (which is rebranded Seasonic Focus) for 80$ is a good deal too.

Or Corsair CX450 if you don't plan to upgrade GPU to anything more powerful than GTX1660\RX5500.

What retailer has this one for $80?

Thanks for the suggestions.

It's definitely not going to be a high end system. It's for my daughter with some leftover parts, but mainly I want today focus on pretty lights as that's her main focus.

It will likely be using integrated graphics for a while even.

CXM uses outdated topology, it's not a terrible PSU but there's better stuff like the phanteks linked above.

The normal CX that's not semi/modular is actually newer and a reliable choice on the cheaper side but seems like PSU pricing is all over the place lately due to the new import taxes USA has with China.

Thanks for the info.

Also @porina and the others.

Went with the CX 550 (non m) at $69, as it's only $10 more than the 450.

Tried finding the others on Amazon (preferred retailer) without success, so just went with that.

Should last a while and through a few upgrades later on.  Thanks again.
