Not sure but the problem with Apple is after a while they won't update your O/S anymore and you will have to buy a new one.

After a very long while, yeah. Usually when they don't support a feature, IIRC the latest batch of Macs dropped from the supported list physically can't run Metal or one of the other core components of modern macOS. Never seen them just drop one for arbitrary reasons. Same on iPhones, they dropped 32-bit devices a bit ago as part of the move to 64-bit only, and more recently a few that don't have enough RAM to run iOS 13 smoothly.

Yeah the 13" isn't worth it with all the improvements of the 16".

A good long while though. I have lots of co-workers with Macs who've owned them far longer than I've ever owned a PC

^^^ I'm running a Mid-2012 13" MBP, another coworker runs a Late-2012 or Early-2013 rMBP, had another coworker who ran a... 2006 or 2008 (I forget which year, was a C2D one) black MacBook up till just a year or two ago, when he upgraded to a MacBook Air. And that's not because the MacBook broke, just because it finally got slow enough that it was hurting productivity, and had issues with software compatibility for some newer stuff due to running quite an old version of Mac OS X.

I would say they generally run comfortably for about 5-7 years. My 15" 2014 MacBook Pro still feels really fast, and the battery still lasts around 6 hours of use.
