Hello guys ,

I come here in need of advice because i think my head will explode ( everytime i want to upgrade my pc i get the same feeling)

So my current rig is : i7-6700k overcloked to 4.4ghz water cooled with aio corsair prosomething 240mm(cant remember the name) gtx 1080 and 16gb ram on a msi z170 gaming m7 mobo.psu evga supernova g2 750w 80 gold plus modular. Monitor is 1080p

But i want to upgrade the cpu and the mobo, i already ordered i9-9900k and a z390 motherboard and because asus cashback promotion i can get 110€ back from the money i paid, the parts will arrive on 10th december.

HOWEVER the more im watching over intwrnet the more im inclined to switch to amd ryzen 9 3950x and a a570 mobo. And this is my struggle , i never had an amd rig but thats not the problem , the problem is , wich cpu is better or good for me ?

I 99% do gaming and maybe have firefox or youtube poped on my 2nd monitor.but i like to have ability to stream and play games since from time to time i stream for some friends., without being punished on fps drops like i am on the 6700k.

The i9-9900k is at 489€ and the 3950x is at 844€ but price is not really a concern ( however im not an idiot , if the cheapest suites me then thats the way to go).

To be honest with myself the pc i have right now suites my needs but theres something inside me telling me to BUY BUY BUY.....

What would you do ? What cpu would you buy ? Wich one would last me longer?( at least until i get the BUY BUY madness again, usually every 1.5-3years).or should i send cancel the order and wait ? Please help . I attached photos with what i ordered .soon ill buy a gtx 2080ti because my cousin bought one and now i feel envy. ALSO IMPORTANT, i will switch soon to 1440p.

EDIT : im sorry for my english. Also is 6am ?

so you can return those no problem?

here is a bench test of the two cpus, quite different for core count

8/16 vs 16/32 Ryzen @ $750usd i think its even on the euro

Ryzen has extremely similar performance and a better upgrade path, if that's a priority to you then go AMD but for the CPU you'll be using for the next 5 years the 9900K will do you fine.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

I dunno.  The 9900k is 16 thread space and they do 5ghz like a dream.  I’m not sure some of their non hyper threaded stuff is worth it but my 4770k is still chugging.  It’s the only chip that really does both MHz and thread space count at the same time.  Plus the 3950 is $750

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

9900k of course, since it's for 99% gaming. Ryzen 9s are exclusively for people who make money with their PCs if you are reasonable.

For that use case, no need to go that heavy for cpu.

A simple 3800X with a good mobo to go with it, and 4x8gb matched ram 3600 speed minimum

So the 3950x or stick with the i99900k ? Also if you say the amd , is it really really needed to change the ram ? I already received the ram and if i have to return it i have to send it to them . Its 3200mhz the ram i bought

But will it kill my fps when stream ? Also what do you mean with " if you are reasonable" ?

stick to NVENC and it won't, Turing's NVENC encoder really killed off x264 streaming tbh, unless you can afford a TR1950x or something and do x264 slow preset.

AS in not spending stupid amounts of money on a tool not meant for your needs

You could do a no-holes-barred AMD system and get something only a tiny little bit more powerful.  You’d be spending 3 times the money to do it though.  Lame X570 motherboards are pricey, but good ones are terrifying.  There’s only one x570 motherboard I think is worth having (no fan) and it’s $600-700 if you can find one at all.  $2k just for the cpu/mobo/full memory

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.
