Laptop for cousin

My cousin is heading to college, and needs a good laptop. I figured I would help since I'm the "tech" guy in the family.

REQUIREMENTS:

- small (13 inch screen)

-comparable to a macbook pro or air

- 8GB ram

- intel i5 or i7 (ryzen is alright if the laptop is small)

- a startup ssd and hopefully a HDD aswell

It will be used for:

- school work

- youtube, web browsing, a lot of tabs open, netflix, etc.

The question is the budget. If the budget can afford the real-deal holly-field I would say go for the base model 13" Quad Core MacBook Pro. If the budget (or personal preference) requires a Windows machine, I think the latest Gen of 13" Dell XPS systems with the 10th gen processors are the best choice.

why not get a chromebook? those are significantly cheaper and have good performance once you get to the $400+ area.

They're very limited in what apps they can run though

they can run android apps. thats not very limiting

Auctully didn't realise that thanks though I meant they can't run desktop apps which can be limiting for collage sometimes

oh this is for college? then no, get full windows. for highschool chromebooks are fine, but in college (depending on the major), you will probably need desktop apps

the goal is to be cheaper than a macbook so around the $600-950(max) range
