Asrock B450 Gaming ITX No Video

When I turn on the power, all the fans start spinning, but no BIOS beeps or video output. When i press keyboard buttons nothing happens

Does this mean that the motherboard is functioning? Is there a way to test if the CPU is an issue that doesn't involve me buying a new CPU? I have tried with and without the GPU (MSI Twin Frozr III GTX 660), with no difference. I have a speaker plugged in for testing purposes.

All suggestions are much appreciated - thank you

The BIOS version needs to be above X to support Ryzen 3000 series CPUs, did you confirm this with seller when you purchased?

I did not, other than the most recent reviews on the page which stated that it arrived with updated bios out of the box. Is there a way to update the bios if it will not post? I fear that there is not. If that is the case, should I just purchase a Ryzen 2000 series to keep around for use in this case? I am building computers for clients, and will probably need it semi frequently.

Yes, it unfortunately doesn't come with BIOS flashback. Whether it's worth buying an older CPU is debatable, as it might not be long before they ship boards with updated BIOS anyway. But that said you can get a cheap 2000 series Athlon CPU for very reasonable money right now, so might be worth it rather than the hassle of sending a board back and waiting for a replacement.

RMA the board it is. That is what my client wants, so that is what I shall do.

According to the sticker on the bios chip it should be the correct bios: P3.50. So I have no clue as to what is up.

Hmm, that is weird. I guess you already tried it with a different HDMI cable, 1 stick of ram and such?

It might not have been the BIOS, but that's why I asked. There's no way to tell other than if you know which BIOS version it is, or that it works. It's the most likely culprit IMO when new CPUs came out only a little while ago.

The only thing I didn't try is one stick of ram instead of two. I have purchased a Ryzen 3 2200G to try that, because my Asus Prime x470 boards are not posting either. At least with the x470 I am getting backlight from the monitor, so I know something is there. The Asrock doesn't even bring the monitor out of sleep mode. I have also contacted Asrock support, and am waiting to hear back. The three x470 boards, as well as the Asrock all say Ryzen 3000 Desktop Ready on the box though, so they should have worked. -_-?

What CPUs do you have available?  if you have a CPU capable of fitting in an AM4 board you could test that ASrock board, plus update it's BIOS.

But yeah, it does seem weird it wouldn't POST in any of those boards... I'd definitely say it's more likely that the CPU is DOA in that case.

Hello, Silent Shadow Warrior!

Try with a standard hdd instead. I think these drives are prone to not work / boot often when used as boot drives especially in 400 series boards.

And since you seem to have that problem over multiple boards it's worth a try imo...

Otherwise very mysterious,  and the 2000 series Ryzen doesn't work either?  That at least should work,  kinda doubt 2 CPUs are DOA... must be something else.

I haven't tried swapping the boot disk, but it doesn't even post, so I have my doubts about it being the drive. The 2000 series chip doesn't arrive in the mail until 12/4 at the latest so I have not been able to test that yet, but here's hoping it works. For the Asus X470 boards, their support assures me that the 2000 series chip should work to update the bios, as for Asrock support, I am still waiting to hear back.

Both M.2 and sata 3. I have however, gotten a second ASUS PRIME X470 to work with the 2200G, updated the bios, installed Ryzen 5 3600, and am now installing windows to the 1TB M.2 970 EVO. So at least that is progress.

Yes, same M.2, ram, psu, gpu, and cpus for both ASUS boards. The Asrock is different completely (this is the one that has the listed specifications in the OP of this thread). Also, it wasn't like I did anything except remove all storage when I tried the 2nd ASUS board. Maybe that is what did it, start it with no storage installed at all for the first boot and bios update?

I'd be inclined to always reset CMOS after hardware change. The storage shouldn't make any difference unless the boards have already been previously booted and had specific storage listed as boot device maybe.

with most AM4 boards I have used the RAM will almost definitely give you boot problems though, if previous modules were used and then CMOS not reset after change. Just an observation though from my own usage, not a rule AFAIK.

It was the same ram on the boards the entire time. The only thing that changed about the ram was how many of the two sticks were plugged in ( 1 or 2), and which slot they were plugged into. The only thing that change between the one board that didn't work and then did was the removal of the sata 3 250GB WD HDD. So I don't know what did honestly. -_-

I had the exact same problem. BUT I found the solution...

Configuration:
MB: ASRock Fatal1ty AB450 Gaming-itx/ac
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600

PROBLEM: like most others with this problem, I would turn on the power, press power button on the case, lights on case would come on, fans would all come on, even the USB thumb drive would light up & the cpu would start to heat up too. BUT No Video output and no other signs of boot. I tried lots of things, to no avail. Until...

SOLUTION: I, am, stupid. I had no video because I had connected my monitor to the "onboard" HDMI output on the ASRock motherboard. But that will NEVER work because my Ryzen 5 CPU has no integrated video. So I popped my graphics card in the PCIe slot, plugged my monitor into THAT, fired up the power and boom, I see the ASRock bios on screen. YAY!

MY PAIN: OMG, I switched monitors, cables, cable types, I pulled the CPU off another machine (so much pain) to try it (same problem, duh), changed the RAM, did a dance and nothing worked until I realized the mistake I had made. I was being too lazy to take the new graphics card out and plug it in first, I figured I would do that after I had installed Windows. That did not work out. I'm just glad I got this thing working at last.

Thanks for the reply! I ended up getting this to work with a bios flash since my CPU was the 3400G which does have integrated graphics. My biggest pain was the fact that the box and website said Ryzen 3000 ready out of the box, but it definitely wasn't.
