was threadripper a paper launch? did anyone actually get a unit (pre orders don't count)

exactly as the title says, were there any TR units that were actually available to buy? all i've seen were pre orders. i was on newegg the moment they launched and all i saw was a pre order button.

i have pre-orders in 3 different places. i have looked on message boards and discords far and wide, and have yet to find a single person who got a unit or who's unit were shipped. microcenters didn't get any threadrippers, B&H did not either. i don't know about amazon or newegg.

any ideas?

Honestly, has any processor launch in the last 3 or 4 years been anything more than a paper launch?

Just checked at a local retailer.  I could walk into any one of several stores and pick up a 3960x right now if I wanted, though if more than a couple people did this they'd be out.  As for the 3970x, they have it marked as "special order", meaning they'll bring it in on request but don't carry stock normally.  This is done for any low volume expensive items.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

Actually, I forgot about the new Hamilton location xD If you know people in Toronto that shouldn't be too much of a drive

Plus like I said you can just order it online too

i tried ordering online. it needs a canadian address just to get to the check out. i was going to ask someone in canada to grab one for me, but later that day i got a shipment date from amazon.es (spain). my ETA is sep 9. my relatives won't get it to me sooner anyway.

also, amazon spain only charged me 1094 euros (1204 USD), and that's with shipping and import taxes already rolled in. seems to be an error in my favor.

thanks for the help
