Secondary SSD for duo booting Linux.

mrchow19910319

I am considering purchasing another 500GB SSD for duo booting Ubuntu on my laptop.

which brand and model should I buy?

i don’t have the budget for the high end ones like Samsung evo, just one that is reliable enough for everyday usage is fine.

thanks in advance.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

It doesn't really matter, any SSD will work with Linux and most are more reliable than the average HDD. Linux isn't as affected in its performance by drive speed, even a comparatively slow SSD will give you a great user experience.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

So on the cheaper ends what model should I choose?

Forget to mention the SX8200 pro has components on both side of the pcb. So it is a little thicker than most of the single - sided M.2 drives. So you need to check if your laptop can accommodate a thicker drive.

That is the worse SSD from a known brand on the market, cancel the order at very least get the BX500 since it is the same price but outperforms it on every benchmark while being better build and more reliable.

It's really not bad mate?

I've got 2 of em and had em for over a year. They're cheap and reliable (for me atleast) as long as you get them for a low price, its fine.

They're not the 'FASTEST' out there but they've been able to get sustained write speeds around 350-450mb/s so..pretty damn fine.

And btw (the a400 is metal and the bx500 is plastic, not sure if it rly helps but just saying)

P.S (I've got the Crucial MX500, BX500, and 2x a400's) The mx500 is by far best but i haven't found and BIG speed differences between the bx500 and a400).

Peace out!

Maybe I should just get a WD Blue and call it a day.
