So I'm getting a new GPU... Help

My good ol' 5 year old gaming PC is getting a well-deserved upgrade.

Current components are: AMD FX-8300, MSI 970A-G43, R7 360 2GB, 8GB RAM, 500W Elite Power V2 Cooler Master (only one 6-pin and no 8-pins lol)

I really want to upgrade my GPU and RAM, I've got the RAM sorted out, but I really want to get a GTX1060 6GB (not a 1660 because it comes with an 8-pin, or at least the ones at my local tech store do).

I'm asking you guys, is a GTX1060 6GB overkill for my current system, keep in mind I'll be getting another 8GB of RAM.

Thanks!

It's not overkill if your current GPU isn't pushing enough frames (assuming 1080p).  The extra RAM will only really help if you leave stuff open while you play but your current 8GB of RAM won't be the weak point when you have an AMD FX (it's just no bueno for modern games).  Also it's a dead-end upgrade as a newer CPU would use DDR4, and that stuff is cheap as chips right now, I'd safe up that RAM upgrade money and look at new CPU/Mobo/RAM.  That said, the next thing to upgrade is the CPU and PSU.

this is your weak spot

AMD FX-8300

but you want to keep your current setup and thats ok

a gpu is a good purchase because then you can always use it in another system later.

think about saving more money for a little better gpu

its an option to think about too

Yeah, I will be getting a new system not so far in the future, I don't want to bring my current build to 2020.
