If you want a upgrade then buy a 3600 or 3700x (stock, no OC), but remember to update bios before swapping cpu: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B450-GAMING-PLUS#down-bios

If not. Then run your memory with stock clocks. If DOCP settings is not working, then find your modelnumber/productnumber (P/N) of your ram kit and use the timings specs, ie 16-18-18-38,  DRAM voltage: 1,2V - 2666mhz and type in manually in BIOS.

If you want higher CPU clock speed - enable PBO and use offset voltage to lower the voltage until the system gets unstable. Raise again until the system is stable. Use a program like Aida64 to test for stability.

He doesn't need to OC the cpu, just get the ram to the right speed.

The 3600 would work of course, but would a 3700x?  If it did it would be right at the edge.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

it's in Tier C Tier C 125A current draw on little ambient airflow, maxed out 2700X, 3900x at 1.3V on ambient cooling (P95)

Should be more than adequate for a 3700x with moderate OC.

I didn’t know there was a mobo tier list.  I only knew about the PSU tierlist
