Smaller SSD for laptop?

I've opened up 2.5" SSDs in the past, and some of them come on boards shorter than the full 2.5" bay. Don't know if there is an easy way to find out which ones might be applicable. You could try opening the existing SSD and you might get lucky.

Are there shorter SATA SSDs out there? I've put Linux on my old laptop, the wireless card has no support, and I'm hoping to find extra space inside of the laptop to rig up a USB wireless dongle. It's a weird situation. I'm thinking that if I could find an SSD to replace the current 2.5" SSD, but is shorter and doesn't take up the whole drive bay, I could fit the dongle in that extra space and do some wiring to hook it up to a USB port.

 

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Take a look at M2 to Sata boards. IIRC you can get them in half size.
