So I'm planning to get this card from amazon for me and my sibling. Just wondering if anyone has had this card before and how it preforms with overclocking, thermals and noise levels.

Do you think there would be much of a performance difference?

Not necessarily, but my HIS 7770 blew up when (I'm guessing) the heatsink made contact with a MOSFET, causing a small fireball.

TL,DR: Get the MSI to avoid super mega ultra fireballs.

A friend of mine has that exactly 7770 and it performs really well.

Console optimisations and how they will effect you | The difference between AMD cores and Intel cores | Memory Bus size and how it effects your VRAM usage |
How much vram do you actually need? | APUs and the future of processing | Projects: SO - here

Intel i7 5820l @ with Corsair H110 | 32GB DDR4 RAM @ 1600Mhz | XFX Radeon R9 290 @ 1.2Ghz | Corsair 600Q | Corsair TX650 | Probably too much corsair but meh should have had a Corsair SSD and RAM | 1.3TB HDD Space | Sennheiser HD598 | Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro | Blue Snowball

7770s do not perform "well."

Hmmmmm... He hasn't had issues running anything so far, so I mean....

I guess I'm a sucker for half decent graphics and more than ~40 fps in games at 1080p

Well it's not exploding into a ball of fire

like my philosophy on most things in life, can't be that terrible.

Got me there, though mine has heated up for no reason and died.

What's your definition of "well"?

Mine is:

Light gaming

bit o folding

bit o mining

of course not all at once

Define "light" gaming...

Ah there's your problem, the 7770 isn't for 1080p gaming, he maxes out games at 1366x768 perfectly fine.

Star Wars Battlefront 2

Battlefield 1942

Battle for Wesnoth

Pokemon emulators

Spelunky

I think that is light gaming

Okay, I just want to be able to play games with decent textures at least, and the card fails at doing even that.

Everyone calls (or called) it the sweet spot for 1080p gaming. And no, it doesn't even run 720p maxed out fine either O.o

That shouldn't be right since that's essentially the 7850s job, perfect 1080p gaming for a perfect Price/Performance.

Apparently not when it came out and 2 years afterward O.o Even Linus and Slick said it was the best price/performance card for 1080p on a livestream a year or so ago, so why do people still recommend it??
