Hi guys!

Im planning on buying CPU for my new build, i just cant decide which one.. i5 9400f is cheap but has no integrated graphics so i dont know.. if i buy this model, does this mean that my dedicated card will work all the time? (just to display desktop for example). im willing to pay +40$ for 9400 model, to save lifespan of my dedicated GPU.

couldnt find any post related to my questions, so thats why i decided to post it here :) any help is greatly appreciated

Yes. But that would be the case with the 9400 (non-f) too, since when you plug in a dedicated GPU, your integrated GPU will turn off (unless you specifically choose to turn it on).

Your GPU will already have a very long lifespan, having it not display your desktop and such is not going to save you anything of its life.

Plus it would need to turn itself on once you do any sort of video stuff anyways (like gaming or even watching a YouTube video).

In my humble opinion, the Ryzen 3600 or even 2600 is a better CPU than the 9400(f) anyways, so my vote is on that. Doesn't have an integrated GPU either.

Otherwise my vote is on the 9400f, if you truly need Intel (unless you're video editing in Adobe Premiere - in that case the 9400(non-f) does kind of make sense).

i didnt know that, so there is no point for having non-f version. thank you for the information! i will buy the 9400f then :) i already bought intel motherboard so i have to buy intel. by the way, will it be bottleneck for 1660 ti or RTX 2060?

If you’re plugged into the gpu you’re using the gpu.

If you have integrated graphics but are using the display output from the video card, the integrated graphics aren’t being used at all.

The 9400F is the better option if you have a dedicated video card anyway, since you’re saving money by cutting out a feature you wouldn’t use.

Thank you for the info :) !

1660 Ti + 9400f is a good combo.

If you already have a 300-series board, make sure it supports 9th gen CPU's (so it's either B365 or Z390, or any other 300-series board with a '9th gen compatible' sticker)

rtx 2060 is overclocked 1660ti with rtx. Yes, you could overclock the 2060. Can you post your pc part picker list etc what you are buying. That money could buy you something else too.

In games the RTX 2060 is between 0 and 20 percent faster, so could be worth it (depending on the game).

At the same time, the RTX card has RTX features and better compute power. If you value those two, you might like the RTX 2060.

But if you're looking at the RTX 2060, I must at least mention the RTX 2060 Super. Should be around the same price as the normal 2060, but with better performance (around 10-25% better than the normal 2060).

I made a small spreadsheet for myself to compare the RTX 2060 and up and also the 5700 and 5700XT.

In terms of value, the best options were: 2060 Super, 2070 Super and 5700XT. (the 5700 non XT, RTX 2080 and 2080 Super were decent value and the RTX 2060 and RTX 2080 Ti was straight up bad value).

Depending on what game/program(s) are most important to you, the RTX 2060 Super or 5700 (non XT) could be pretty decent options. The 2060S is superior in my opinion/observation (in terms of performance and value)

of course going from 1 card to another card a couple ten dollar bills higher is alright, but doing that again.. And perhaps again does increase the price significantly..

RTX 2060 super is the 8GB version of the card right?

Yep.

The RTX 2060 Super is basically a RTX 2070 for RTX 2060 prices.

Yeah it will be worth it. 8gb is more "future proof" than 6gb of vram
