2080ti spiking at idle?

curious because i find alot of people have this same issue all around on the internet but no fixes and alot of people say its just fine. 

but are these normal on a 2080ti?

A couple of software nowadays will try to use hardware acceleration from the GPU some way or another, popular web browsers like Chrome and Firefox do that for instance.

 

If the software has some weird behaviour on how is handling it and it bothers you see it in use you can disable the hardware acceleration on settings, if you have a powerful CPU which I believe is the case you got a 2080 Ti you can just do so.

 

There could be other sources for this and further troubleshooting on where the usage is coming from is needed.

Are there any applications in task manager showing spikes on your GPU/CPU? They're not simply random, something is actualizing the resource.

these 2 spike whenever i do anything really, click  and drag or open a program, it spikes for a second then down to normal, or randomly spikes overtime

edit : they only go to about 20 percent usage though but it is directly related to the spikes. i have no issues gaming for the most part

Doesn't particularly seem out of place, is this a clean install or were you upgrading the GPU from something else?

i turned chrome off and they happen alot less frequently...they used to be very consistent even when idling.

However clicking thought the nzxt cam, or presision (using percision because i liked the gprah only reason i downloaded it) doing nothing it  stays low, but if i click back and fourth through cam it flicks up for less then a second then back down.

i had just bought this computer from a friend. reinstalled windows and ddu the nvidia drivers and reinstalled new ones.

have set the power to "adaptive" in nvidia control panel as well.

Right click This PC and click Properties-- click Advanced System Setting -- click the Advanced tab -- under Performance click on settings -- under the Visual Effects tab click on Adjust for best performance and click Apply and then OK. It won't look pretty but it will help to isolate the issue. If it's still happening at that point you know it isn't Windows visual features causing it.

so i did this an its still doing it, not as often though.

I figured out its not really going to 7000, its going to 1750, 

i found another article and used a different monitering tool and when the spikes occured this program was reading 1750, 

however just sitting here idling as im typing this its not happening anymore, but it is spiking (max clock speed, straight up and down on the graph) whenever i open or close programs. is this normal?

If they are actually using your GPU for hardware acceleration then yeah, should be nothing to worry about honestly.

My two 2080 tis are flat line at idle.

My Windows appearance settings are set to default.

have you ever had experience with spikes? and is this a bad thing? i switched it back to normal because it make the text look funky in some aeras

It may be your monitoring software.

 

If I load MSI Afterburner first I get 300mhz at idle.

 

I think it may all be false reporting.

Run a bench to get your card over 1350mhz.

If it can't you have the 1350 bug and you should RMA it.

Any recommended bench? I never did anything to my laptop, I have only done furmark once and cinebench is cpu

For quick tests I use Heaven or Valley but Superposition would do.

 

The last Windows update reverted my power settings from high performance to balanced. You should check yours.

you mean here? i never really go into windows, i just wanted a system i wouldnt ever have to do anything to lol

Mine doesn’t show the high performance there, it’s benchmarking right now so I can’t check, but I know I was there earlier and didn’t see that option

I ran balanced on my other computer and I didn't get any spikes so that is not it. 

 

Your CPU score is fine.

Your GPU score is a bit low. It is not low enough that you are having a major problem.

What 2080 ti do you use?

Your numbers are right for a non overclocked 2 fan card.

Whatever is messing with your idle is not effecting your performance.

 

Check task manager to see if there is anything running in the background.

I checked earlier and those were all the processes that I had showed in the picture, I’m just worried about long term effects.

it just didn’t seem right to be going up then right down immediately
