WiFi card in pcie x16 slot not working

Aleksey

I have a QNAP WiFi AC2600 card. It has pcie x1 interface and works OK in a ocie x1 slot, but due to some other card installed, the latter blocks WiFi heatsink. There is another slot available in my motherboard where I have more space, but it is pcie x16 slot. From what I understood from Linus videos, my WiFi card should work just fine in that x16 slot, but it is not recognized. Any ideas how can I make it work?

Image result for QNAP WiFi AC2600

From what i see here, the heatsink still can draw air from the sides, no problem having something blocking the top.

The motherboard is ASRock Z370 Taichi. The card is correctly pointed by SupaKomputa on top. It is recognized in a short pcie #1 x1, but I have two video cards and the only other available slot with some spave below the radiator is the lowest one - pcie x16. The videocard is actually so close that the WiFi fan touches the card and makes a lot of noise. It makes a lot of noise even without touching that card and it works constantly. I had to install it in the upper slot and disconnect the fan, but not sure how long it will survive.

But I am surprised why it is not recognized in the lower slot? Technically it should work just fine.

It sounds like the motherboard uses a pci-e switch of some kind to split the 2nd x8 into 2 x4 .... so if you plug 2 cards you get 2 x8 slots , if you plug 3 cards you should get x8 , x4, x4

But maybe the bios doesn't let you to mix video cards with non video card, or if you use SLI maybe bios locks you to 2 x8 to keep SLI active (if i remember correctly SLI doesn't work with less than x8)

Maybe get a pci-e riser cable and move the card somewhere else (easy if you install the low profile bracket instead of the long one, the edge connector would float in air and you'd have room for the pci-e riser cable.

example : https://www.newegg.com/p/36M-01AF-000N1?Description=pci-e x1 extension&cm_re=pci-e_x1_extension-_-9SIAM5VA458452-_-Product

Actually, it's a good idea. Thank you.
