I think I'm going Red?

Empn03

Hello Community,
A little backstory before I jump-in for the main course. My current build is from 2012. Rocking a 3770k OC@4.6ghz, Sabertooth Z77, EVGA 1080ti FTW, 2x8GB of DDR3 RAMs. By the end of next month my CPU will be 7 generation behind.
Beginning of this year, I started having computer issues. I've put in multiple hours trying to troubleshoot the computer and the results has been unsuccessful. So, I'm at the point of (╯° □ °)╯︵ ┻━┻.

I've put together two different builds. Please let me know your thoughts on it. I'm planning on buying all the parts by the end of this week.
-I'm a graphic/presentation designer.
-Software I commonly used are: Photoshop 3D modeling, 4k to 8k PowerPoint production.
-Video games: Squad, Borderlands 3, Star Citizen
-1440p 34" widescreen
I'm hoping this computer with last me for 6-8 years

Intel option:
The CPU is i9-10920x (waiting for release) +$700
Link

The reason why I went with 10920x is because the high clock speed with decent core thread counts. (I'll also be getting it through a friend, which will offer me a significant discount.)

AMD option:

Link

After watching Linus video "I went AMD" I though hey, Linus is right. I want the best performance!
Cons: I've never tinker with AMD cpu before. So overclocking might be a major learning curve.

Looking for recommendation replacing SSD with two M.2.s Any combination and sizes are ok. Budget range $450 for both.

Thanks so much,
Joe

So the question is...

(AMD should pay linus for that video)

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

How would you be buying stuff at the end of the week if the 10920X isn't out yet?

Also traditionally Adobe products have played nicer with Intel, I don't know for 100% sure if that was just due to better single core perf or they like the platform more as well.

If you are going to buy stuff at the end of this weekend, Ryzen would be the only real option because the new Intel CPUs aren't out yet, and there'll be new mobos for them and those aren't out yet. No idea how the CPUs compare to the older X299 stuff as well, they could be incremental or a marked improvement. AFAIK there's still no benchmarks for them.

Ryzen is also a mainstream platform whereas X299 is HEDT, should take those into consideration as well, if you need some HEDT stuff then X299 may still be a better option.

Several leaked benchmarks suggest that the 3950X beats the 10920X by a significant margin. As for overclockability, you're not going to be reaching Intel-level speeds anytime soon, but the process itself should be relatively similar, essentially just tweaking voltages and clock speeds until you have something stable. No real recommendation for the SSD, just try to get whatever has the lowest price/gigabyte at the time of purchase, and go for NVMe if it's important (Which it probably won't be but up to you).

"uhhhhhhhhhh yeah id go with the 2600 its a good value for the money"

Personally, I see no point in the i9 here. It's expensive for the platform cost, it's likely going to be hotter, more power hungry and not faster if the chip that's being rebranded is anything to go buy (10th gen HEDT Intel CPUs are rebrands of 9000 series)

I would go R9 3900x and call it a day. Keep the 1080Ti you have and get a different case (my opinion only).

I was thinking buying all the parts for now, and dropping in the 10920x in a later day. But, from the overall conciseness Ryzen is the way to go. I'm sold, Red team it is. Thanks everyone! ?

Linus mention that Ryzen is very picky on the RAM. The RAM I've picked out are from basic google search "best RAM for Ryzen", and 3200ghz seems a bit slow/average for a DDR4. Any other recommendations? Does Samsung chip make a huge difference?

Well, 3rd gen ryzen has got better when it comes to compatibility with ram, you could most likely do a search of given ram to see compatibility for example "corsair vengeance ....... compatiblity with ryzen". 3200mhz is decent memory, just don't get memory that is too fast because the infininity fabric does have limits to memory frequencies, but you can also overclock the infinity fabric

RAM isn't a big issue anymore, it was 1st gen Ryzen that preferred b-die (samsung) RAM. Just get a 3600MHz CL16 kit for Zen 2 and you're good. 3200Mhz CL14 is also another option, but with your budget 3200Mhz CL16 or 3600Mhz CL18 would be a silly choice. Basically you want fast RAM with low timings, 3600/16 and 3200/14 are pretty much the two best combos.
