Motherboard with missing VRM heatsink. Safe to test functionality?

Greetings fellow PC enthusiasts.

 

I have a question about an MSI z270 mPowerGaming Titanium.

It was an amazon open box for dirt cheap, but it seems like its missing a vrm heatsink.

Is there any way to check how the VRM's are split or to test this board?

I have an i7 6700K I could pop in there to see if its worth getting a heatsink there or to straight up return it.

According to the manufacturers website, there should be a heatsink on the lower(upper) 4 phases.

Have you contacted MSI to see if you can purchase one? Maybe see if an RMA is optional as well?

for just testing to see if it boots? i don't see it overheating, it should be fine to at least test for bootability. if you feel really concerned, point a fan right at the VRM

Like stated. Should be fine, put a fan on it and do what you have to.

It's the igpu vrm. I would have removed it as well. If you have that sink there you cant fit a radiator above the board well. I am running prime 95 for 15 min and I can comfortable touch those vrms, they are just slightly warm...

Might not be the best solution, but until msi gets back to me this will have to do it. 

 

Yes... that's an M.2 heatsink cautiously engineered :D onto those vrms
