HX1200i USB Issue

So I noticed that plastic black insert which holds pins in the PSU is gone, didn't even do anything.

 

Didn't force it or anything, I just noticed today that I can't see wattage used on my PSU.

 

Would that be covered under warranty?

I already did. It's not. Don't worry about it.

 

Since Corsair has 0 or less confidence in their products, 2nd hand items are not under warranty so I bought an EVGA unit and will be binning this Corsair one shortly.

Key part of this statement is "second hand products". 

 

I too was sad when my use Hyundai did not come with the same 10 year warranty as a new one.

It "was" one year old.

EVGA for instance, always honoured anything that was 2nd hand. Definitely not buying any more Corsair stuff.

No way.

 

Thank God I can still return the 16x ML120 Pro fans I bought for my build, they are certainly going back along with unused 2x Commander Pros. Just checked TrustPilot and other sites too to confirm my fears and yep, mostly 1 star reviews.

So you had the original receipt that showed when the person you bought it from second hand bought it originally?

Correct I still have it. Still doesn't matter because I don't know who he is and I have no contact information. Just because I have the address doesn't mean I should waste money to travel across the country and hoping he still lives under that address. Plus literally showing up unnaounced and demanding help regarding this if it somehow "would work out". I already paid enough.

That's what I'm saying. 

 

I asked if you had the ORIGINAL receipt.  Sounds like you don't.  You have a receipt from who you bought it from second hand.  That doesn't show who or where the PSU was originally bought from.  Someone who apparently broke the product because they were careless.

 

So you're willing to throw Corsair under the bus and return all of your other Corsair components because you can't prove when the PSU was ORIGINALLY sold. 

 

Doesn't sound like the problem is with Corsair. 

 

Good luck with your build moving forward.

I have the ORIGINAL receipt from where the power supply was ORIGINALLY  purchased from. Invoice and order number included. Original print from that company....... Not some piece of paper with scribbles on it.

 

Reviews everywhere online support my theory.

 

I supported Corsair for years. Warranty used to be epic in 2013-2014. Things changed a lot for the worst.

I don't think that can be hotglued. I might be able to fix it today, I will salvage USB Mini B and get that insert from it.

I'm confused as to what the issue is. What do you mean by it's "gone"? It broke? Can you post a photo of the cable showing the damage.

Corsair does (or did) sell replacement cables from their website. If you can't repair the cable yourself you might be able to just buy a new cable.

You want to get rid of your Corsair HX1200i because you cannot see the system power consumption in software, so you are going to throw it out and replace it with an EVGA PSU...? EVGA doesn't have software monitoring for their PSUs. If you're happy using a power supply that doesn't have software monitoring then just use the HX1200i without the C-Link cables. Still works as a normal power supply without it.

Unless there's some other problem with the unit you're not sharing with us, it seems like a really silly reason to throw a power supply in the trash.

I don't know what happened, I was building a custom loop (as in adding to it) I could see the the wattage in iCUE earlier, after I built the PC and it ran okay I didn't check the wattage since I had no time to even use it.

 

Recently I had more time and wanted to check the wattage whilst gaming since I added a pump and other bits and pieces like 3x Commander Pros (which I intend to return along with 16x ML120 Pro fans), and I have not even touched the PSU or the cables 'cause the molex for pumps were already there.

 

I then checked if I can see wattage and I could not. So I opened the case that's massive and in not easily accessible spot, checked the cable and plugged it in.

 

I tried plugging it into one of 3 Commander Pros for pass through and nothing, so I thought okay I'll plug it into two of my USB internal headers on the motherboard (Which were both taken). 1st one was nothing and so was the second one. I then inspected the cable and it was totally fine. I then checked the port on the PSU and it just had 5 golden wires in the USB port.

 

Didn't think much of it, until later I googled how Mini B looks like and I realised that the black insert from inside is missing. Included picture shows the part that's just not there. Nothing is snapped, it looks very clean inside of the port, it's just that black five holed thing is missing. Looked in the case to see if it was there but it wasn't. I also checked around the PC and nothing. I didn't use any force, it was installed as such from day one untouched.

 

I was planning to buy that kind of an extender from the picture and salvage that black piece to then fix the port but then I thought, I have no warranty (I called Corsair multiple times from Skype because you can't contact them otherwise without waiting for days, ultra annoying).

 

I have so much expensive stuff hooked up to my PC I certainly don't want to risk it. With EVGA I can buy 2nd hand and still have warranty (This is what I'd call confidence in your product). With Corsair not so much. I will get a wall meter just so I don't have to deal with this kind of "warranty". I literally told them I'd pay for the fix, and shipping and all. Not possible.... Great. Wanted to pay for warranty myself on this product.... Not possible....

 

I have the ORIGINAL invoice from the original retailer where it was originally purchased from, however when I called Corsair I told them that yea this is the problem, they said yes we will replace it under warranty so I started providing details and then at the end he mentioned providing address etc. I said I bought it second hand but I have the original invoice. I was then told that I need to contact the original buyer of the PSU, and I told him it's not possible, so then I said I might as well bin it, and they replied with essentially yes.

 

I was considering buying ASUS THOR PSU as it just displays wattage used but it's not worth it. 

 

So since EVGA warranty is best to none (so far never had a single issue, whereas with Corsair I had multiple back in the day but they were resolved VERY quickly I guess not any more) I will be buying their PSU I have no other choice. 

 

Well, if I have no warranty then why would I risk 2x 2080 Tis and lots of other things to get destroyed with literally no coverage?

I will not be using it, it will be in the dust for years until I would bin it anyway.

At this point it's not mainly about that insert but overall warranty.

Just moving to a brand that cares more.

If I wasn't clear before, I meant a photo of your broken cable showing how the cable is damaged. A photo of a USB type C adapter you found on google image search or a screenshot of a customer review for the Corsair H115i Pro 280mm AIO CPU cooler on Amazon doesn't really help.

Not at home so can't take a picture just yet. It's pretty well explained of what the issue is.

 

The review does help. Similar issue, different product. The picture shows a port and red circle around the thing that is missing....

 

Also, you didn't read with understanding. It's not the cable that's broken.

I think you're over reacting.

 

You've had good experiences in the past.  Now you have a USED product, and Corsair's warranty states that warranty is not transferable.  Now Corsair sucks.

Not always. This is not the first time.

 

Getting rid of all Corsair stuff. Had enough.
