Im thinkint of upgrading the pcie wifi adapter on my main build. There are a couple of reasons why. Firstly, the wifi reception is only 2 of 4 bars although Im next to the room with the router. Secondly, Windows 10 seems to be using 802.11n despite me using the software. All my other devices (my brothers's PC and my laptop) can receive the full 4 bars of wifi except my main rig.

These are the adapters

My PC: TP-Link Archer T6E

My Laptop: Intel Wireless-AC 8260

My Brother's PC: Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4

Adjusting the antenna and playing around with the software (both tp link and windows) did nothing.

Im getting around 100mbps while the other devices can get 280mbps. My router is 1gbps

What software? Also are you connected to 2.4 Ghz or 5Ghz?

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

P-Link driver software.

Dont use their software. Windows XP on up has WiFi management built in to the OS. Just let Windows deal with the operations of WiFi.

If you can use a WiFi analyzer on your phone to see what type of signal strength you get around your computer. It could just be that something in the room is blocking the WiFI signal. 5Ghz has lower penetration power than 2.4 Ghz, so you have to take that in to account.

My other devices can get better reception than the desktop. I tried moving my laptop to where my desktop is and it still gets better reception

Could be a bad card. But you didnt put the laptop where the desktop wireless card is. Your computer case could be partially blocking the signal. Its known to happen. Thats why companies like ASUS started offering PCIe cards with antennas attached to cables. This way you could move the antenna away from the case and potentially to better reception area. It could also be a driver issue.

What I would try is uninstalling the TP Link software. Install just the driver only and let Windows control the WiFi. Test it again. If it still has an issue then Id think about a new WiFi adapter.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
