Can't choose between Ryzens

Sik2JZ

Hey guys I have a question.. I currently have an i5 4590(which I am selling tomorrow) and a RX580 8 GB. I bought a Asrock X370 Pro4 Motherboard and I am looking for Ryzen 5 2600x/3600/3600x .. Which one should I buy? BTW I will upgrade to 1080 later from the RX580.

At what prices? The 2600x and 3600 both are worth it for the price they usually retail for (like 160 for the 2600x and 200 for the 3600). I'd skip the 3600x though, it usually costs 50 dollars more than the 3600 and basically just comes with a better cooler

Ryzen 5 3600, but download the latest BIOS for your motherboard because you need to update it so you can actually use the PC. Later down the road you can overclock it if needed to match the 3600x.

well with X370 the max i would go with is 2600x because that's a first gen chipset, iirc

but ignoring聽the mobo, i'd get a 3600 non x

It's not about the prices.. I am ready to give as much money as possible, as long as it's worth it.. And I will probably try to overclock later when I get the 1080. I wanna know if it's worth it the bonus 50-60$ for the 3600x.

3600, better potential in gaming.

No. You can easily get a superior cooler for 50-60$, which is what differs between the 3600 and 3600x. The actual operating frequency gap is minor.

@Gegger聽the mobo itself comes ready for ryzen 2, and when buying I ordered it with a bios update.. not sure which one they put tho. But I still got a friend that has a ryzen 5 1500x, I think he will let me use his' to update my BIOS.

What about a B450 board with a 3600 on it, thats probably the best you can get right now, something like a MSI B450 Pro Carbon or Tomahawk, but if you plan to use a 3700X in the futur i would get a X470

Main System: Ryzen 2700, Asus Crosshair VII Hero, EVGA GTX 1080ti SC, 970 EVO Plus NVMe, Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz CL14, CM H500, CM ML240L cpu cooler.

Second System: Ryzen 2400G, Gigabyte B450 DS3H, RX 580 Nitro+, Kingston A400 SSD, Team T-Force 3200mhz CL15

If it ain't overclocked it ain't good...

I think then you should get the ryzen 5 3600, the price to performance is superior to the 2600x and will be an incredible performer. Definitely make sure that your friend will lend you the cpu for the bios update though, it most probably won't come ready out of the box for third gen ryzen

I am curious to see the success of an X370 board and 3rd gen Ryzen.

Some of us guys that went high end with X370 back in 2017 are eagerly awaiting to see the performance results :).

I am pretty confident my X370 Strix could handle a 3900X or even a 3950X.
