Best HDD?

Looking to buy a 4TB+ HDD and it seems like everything is only 5,400 RPM for the most part, only a few that are 7,200 RPM and just about all hard drives have bad reviews. Of course I wanna buy something solid and reliable and at least 7,200 RPM. This is only for my PC for storage and such so I'm not sure what the difference is for surveillance HDDs are, but I guess I can't really use those for normal PC use.

 

Are HDD's now just doing 5,400 RPM as standard now?

 

Anyways, I also saw that I could go SSHD, are they really that much better then HDD? How much lower then SSD? I don't know much about them. I just want some good 4TB+ 7,200+ RPM HDD. Why is this hard to find?

4TB is a mass storage of things that don't need speed.  Most people use 1-2TB for games if they have a boot SSD and can't afford or don't want to pay for SSD for general storage.

 

You're asking why no cargo vans have no performance features.  Scale down and get a sport SUV instead.

Honestly your better if buying a 2TB SSD for dirt ccheap.  Then buy a external perhap wit your belonging and what not.

If it's for mass storage, why do you need anything faster than 5400rpm? Also, with higher capacity drives, there's less seek time, so they're actually not that slow.

Either way though, you're getting spinning rust. It's not going to be fast. If you want something for speed, get an SSD. They're stupid cheap right now.

Aren't NAS HDD's better to use anyways? Aren't they more reliable and used for 24/7 use?

Why use a regular HDD like the WD Black vs the Red Pro?

 

I will be adding and deleting stuff nonstop daily from the HDD I do buy. But that shouldn't matter with a NAS?

Whats the real reason to use NAS vs desktop vs enterprise?
