Hi there looking for any advice or recommendations on a mechanical keyboard for my brother. Budget is up to about $200 cdn.

He is a programmer and wants a number pad keyboard (no TKL)

He doesnt like super clicky keys, I have a Razer blackwidow ultimate with blue switches and its way too loud for him (I love it).

Has to have a backlight but full RGB control is not necessary.

Thanks

if the brown switch won't be silent enough, he can put almost any other switch later without any hassle.

Or this if he wants to save up a bit, https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-MasterKeys-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B07MXPYWD4 it has on the fly macros also, no nonsense design, and no software needed to control RGB. Caps are not the best, easily changeable due to standard layout. Also, this one https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=3564 is very nice, no lighting though, but the quality is great.

Have him try some switches out, maybe go to a store and try some keyboards out, or buy a couple on Amazon and return the ones you don't like.

I'd consider building a board if he knows how to solder and wants something a little more custom and unique. Even if he doesn't know how to solder he can buy a PCB with hotswap sockets (I'd recommend that regardless of if he can solder or not; makes it super easy to try other switches in the future, something I wish I had done when I got my first keyboard).

Quote me to see my reply!

I really like my Logitech G810.

Edit:

I can't seem to find anyone selling it new except one seller on Newegg who has it priced much higher than I paid for it new.  Though the G610 seems to be the same without RGB.

Its too bad, the G810 looks like it would be great and people seemed to love it at the time. G610 is definitely a possibility, thanks

I am surprised that it isn't for sale anymore, but I guess it makes sense as I got mine on sale a few months ago.
