Is this 3700x build the right choice?

Hello there!

I currently looking into buying a new CPU since my current one just isn't doing the job anymore.

I looked into a few options and came to the conclusion that a 3700x would probably be the best choice.

A little info on my rig: my GPU is an ASUS STRIX 980Ti and I'm playing on a 144Hz, 1440p monitor. The new CPU would be mostly for gaming (mainly FPS and games like Anno 1800).

I know for 1440p a 3600(x) would probably be enough but I plan on holding onto the new system for a few years so that's why I think a 3700x would be a good choice.

My parts list:

So what do you think of thees parts? Is a 3700x overall the right choice? And yes astetics is a little important to me :)

Heck ya you have a good build.  The 3700x will also be future proof.  One day you can upgrade video card and get even faster frame rates.  The GPU sorta becomes the bottleneck and what not.  But your card and CPU will do great things for you.  Your set with your CPU for many many years to come.  One day you can get a new video card but no need for CPU upgrade.  I would stick with the 980Ti and enjoy the rig.  One day you will upgrade your video card and the CPU will love it and dish out incredible frame rates and what not.

So that's how you justify $80 more on a TUF board with different badges and Intel LAN?

The 3700 should perform nearly as good as the 3700x if you have a good power delivery system and cooling solution. I'm not sure if the clock speed updates will/have fixed that, as I haven't seen new benchmarks.

I knew there was a Ryzen 2700 but is there a 3700 as well? I actually looked this up since the 3600 is similar to the 3600x but I couldn't find a 3700 model...

Yeah I know I will probably update the GPU in a few years but for now, it still gets the job done :)
But thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it!

That TUF board is pretty unattractive.

I want to say I've heard rumblings of AMD fleshing out their CPU lineup with non X skus.

There is no 3700... The eight-core AMD new CPUs are 3700x and 3800x.

I would really get better ram. It can make a pretty big difference.  I would at the very least get 3200 CL14. But there are gains to be had by going even higher.

Ok thank you didn't know there was more to consider than just memory speed!
