PSU that can handle 3x R9 290's

vong

I'm not looking to go 3 way now, 2 way first then I'll see how I go.

That's a bit cheaper but it's only a silver. With 3 290's I want a platinum.

If you can wait until May, then sure, the Antec HCP-1300 is your best bet.

The Seasonic I posted is not that far off from 80 PLUS Platinum though. At 50% load it reaches 91.4% efficiency at 115V. Platinum is 92% at 115V (it's 94% at 240V, but the efficiency of the PSU increases with the voltage too).

See just how close it came to Platinum (less than or equal to 0.6% difference):

R9-290's OC'ed can consume up to 360W of power according to a fellow on the TS.  Before he returned his, his OC'ed 2600K @ 5.3GHz @ 1.48V and an R9-290 @ +50% power blew the breaker on his 650W PSU lol.

good PSU over 850 should be able to handle it without overclocking. If you want to OC or like to run P95+furmark all day then get 1000+

Even the best 650W's won't be able to handle that kind of overclock. In his situation honestly the CPU overclock is pulling a lot more power then the 290 overclock.

  • 1 year later...

Sorry to open up a new portion on this discussion more than a year later. I have the Xfx 1050 pro gold with triple XFX DD R9-290's, fx 8350 water cooled, 14 gb Gskill, Asus CFV, 1 SSd, 4 hdd, and 6 case fans. I run 4k on a 28 inch Samsung monitor. Is this PSU enough or will I burn up the PSU. It's only two weeks or so out of the box?
