I have an HP 240 G6 Notebook

- Intel Core i3-6006U

- 4GB RAM

- 500 GB HDD

And I mostly use it for android studio work which means lots of Gradle running in the background and with an HDD everything is slow from load times to APK building. So I have been looking to upgrade from an HDD to SSD. Firstly I don't know if my laptop has space for an M.2 SSD but I do know it has space for a 2.5 inch SATA SSD if I get rid of the current HDD so I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on what SSDs I should get. I am looking at about 500GB space, below $100 preferably around $50 - $60. I have taken a look at the Kingston A400, western digital SSDs and the Samsung lineup for 2.5 inch SATA SSDs.

And my thoughts were I am not looking for the fastest 2.5 inches SATA SSD out there but I am looking for something fast, I am not planning on moving it to another laptop, I plan on using it mainly for android studio and other programming related work. So which SSD should I get?

With those specs, I'd grab a 500GB Crucial MX500.  The 1TB is just shy of $100 if you want the space.

I just put one of those in my laptop when the hard drive crashed.  it works fine and is a good price.  It is one of the lowest cost options that has a cache memory.

What's with the specs on those?  I know in real world it really doesn't matter, but is it cutdown or gimped?

My question is how does this compare in speed and durability with the Kingston and Samsung SSDs.

Better than the Kingston, almost as good as the Samsung.

To be brutally honest, your laptop doesn't need a top tier drive.  Infact, I'd even look at the cheapest thing you can get.

I'd still buy the MX500, but that's me.

Please my last question. DO you think getting a used SSD is smart

Naw, they're cheap enough though that going new gets you a lot anyway.
