Hi there, I'm really out of the loop when it comes to bottlenecks. Both my CPU and GPU usage are both pinned at 100%, does that mean their is a bottleneck?

sorry for the noob question, I'm just unsure. Do games use more cores these days? I remember they used to only use 4 but they didn't use hyperthreading. Do games use more cores now??

Thanks ty

Yes, 6c/6t is going out of style in newer games, 6c/12t is minimum.

But your current config is totally good, if you get the performance you are after, no need to view at the cpu/gpu usages.

But the most important is that the GPU usage is 100%, and it is.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

If they are both at 100%, there is no bottleneck between the two.

If your CPU was at 100% and your GPU at 50%, that signifies your GPU could do more if your CPU didn't hold it back. That's a bottleneck. That's not what is happening here.

And yea, games seem to use more cores than just 2 or 4 nowadays. You can turn on the per core graph in task manager and see what cores are being used.

is it worth getting an i7 or i9 from an i5? It's probably just better to upgrade the GPU right

in ur case i'd just keep everything, and upgrade both cpu+gpu only if u feel like it's significantly outdated.

if you upgrade only gpu, the cpu will bottleneck, if you upgrade cpu, gpu might hold u back.

from a 2060 super? only if you recoup some of the cost imho, or if you find some clearance sale on the 2080 for 4k gaming, if you do play in 4k, then gpu is indeed more important.

I might be able to sell it for an ok price, I do have the box and everything

They use up to around 6 threads now. Some do go higher into 8 threads.

This does mean having only 6 threads is great as that does lead to stuttering issues due to lack of pipelines for windows to sqedual other tasks.

Are you getting 100% GPU and CPU usage in Apex Legends? and if so then what's your FPS? something doesn't sound right here

yes, 100%. I have to turn everything to low and all the aa and stuff off, then i get like 80 fps i think, it dips a bit

That's not normal to get 100% CPU usage while only achieving 80 FPS, did you make sure that nothing is running in the background? but either way it's very unlikely to have GPU and CPU at 100%, GPU usage starts to fall down way before the CPU hits the 100% mark, especially since it's using DX11 which is terrible at spreading the cores evenly

Might be the software reporting usages incorrectly? what are you using?

And is it 1x16GB or 2x8GB?

I used MSI afterburner, and 2x8GB

I didnt have anything in the background

Actually I looked at it again and it was spiking between 60 and 70, so I guess its fine

Yeah That seems about right to me for a 9400F, though the RTX 2060 is not fit for 4K gaming, I suggest lowering your resolution to 1080p, It will scale properly on a 4K monitor because every 4 Pixels will instead be combined as 1 Pixel

Hard to recommend upgrading your GPU because even the RTX 2080 is not fit for 4K 144hz, unless you don't mind playing on Low

Oh, you have a 60hz Monitor, doesn't matter at all to go above 60 FPS, the monitor doesn't even show it
