Weird buzzing sound from Yamaha HS5

I heard a weird buzzing from one of my yamaha hs5 monitors (only had it maybe 6 weeks) while the volume knob on my audio interface was turned off. So I went to record it with my razer phone 2 (literally just got it yesterday) and it got worse while I was recording. I realized a minute later that it was proximity to the phone that was causing the buzzing, some kind of interference.

 

Does anyone know what exactly is causing this? I'm thinking maybe it's the wireless charging capability since my old phone didn't have that and this never happened before, but I don't know anything for sure.

 

Also, it isn't going to cause permanent damage is it? I feel like I'm still hearing a faint buzz every few seconds, even quieter than it is in the video. I'm probably just being paranoid though.

 

And lastly is there anything that can be done about it? I mean, obviously keeping the phone a few feet away would do the trick, but I like to place my phone below my screen and watch youtube/netflix while I game so that wouldn't be an ideal solution. If it is wireless charging, is there a way to disable that? Another thought I had is that maybe cables with better shielding would help (I have monoprice cables).

Good choice for studio monitors.  Do you hear this noise from one of them or do both make the sound and what not ?  I would take that monitor somewhere else in your house and connect it to power surge and see if hear the hiss noise or whatever you want to call it.  These monitors are made to not tangle up or grounding issues.  If the sound is from only one of the units then its gone bad.  But if it happens to both then you can remedy it by putting your phone further away and what not.

Well it only occurred when the phone was within maybe 18 inches of the monitor. I held it near the other monitor and the same thing happened, so I concluded that the phone was the cause.

 

edit in case I'm not being clear, the buzzing only happened to the monitor that the phone was near at the time, not both at the same time.

Ohhhh boy you lucked out.  Great to hear it happens seperatly to both monitors.  Your fine just keep it at a distance.  Im glad to hear its not the monitor or both units.  Your doing great, just keep that phone a little further away.  good luck!

Quick update, I just tested and discovered it is not the phone itself but the case causing this. The case has a weak magnet to snap shut that must be causing the interference.
