I have kinda same feeling with TouchWiz. It has much better use of both home screen (endless flipping) and app drawer (open with icon, not by swiping). Plus other things like hidden apps, big app icons and so on. Both stock and Trebuchet (LineageOS) are worse. So are so many others I've used. Maybe they went worse with Android 9, as my tablet is better.

No reason other than people hate preinstalled softwares. If softwares are given as choice, it is all good. If it is preinstalled, it becomes bloatware. 

 

Miui started off as custom ROMs for flagship phones such as Samsung and HTC on XDA. They never had so much hate back then.
