Intel Centrino N-1000 replacement

Dad635

I have the attached Wi-Fi Adapter in my HP Pavilion DM4 and it has stopped working. The system does not even see it anymore, all the usual troubleshooting tips don't work and neither does removing and reinstalling.

It seems that is has died completely but I am struggling to find a compatible replacement/upgrade, as this one is now obsolete.

Any guidance/tips appreciated.

Thanks

Just search for 112bnhmw on eBay, they're available from around $6 plus shipping.

Stick to the same card or a card that's mentioned in the service manual for that model (google hp [model name] service manual) ... some laptops have a whitelist of wireless cards in their BIOS and will reject other models even if technically they would work... so best to stick with original or suggested optional/replacement parts from the service manual.

If you want the service manual but don't know how to get it, reply with the exact model number of your laptop (maybe take a clear picture of the label on the back with your model number) and I'll try to find it for you.

Hi, thanks for the quick feedback. I have checked on e-bay and Amazon and while there are loads on offer under 112bnhmw, I all the ones I have seen so far say they will not work in HP laptops.

Searching for 572520-001 on eBay also returns 20+ results...

Again like I said, say the exact model number and I can try to look up HP part numbers (like 572520-001) that would be compatible with your laptop (they should be mentioned in the service manual)

Here's the service manual for the whole DM4 series: pavilion_dm4.pdf

Page 36 (44 in pdf) in the document is the start of chapter:  Component replacement procedures

Page 38 (46 in pdf) lists the acceptable wireless modules:

Description Spare part number
Atheros 9485GN 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi and 3012 Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter 655795-001
Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi and 2070 Bluetooth 2.1+EDR Combo 600370-201
adapter (BT3.0+HS ready) for use only in Brazil
Broadcom 4313GN 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi and 20702 Bluetooth 4.0 657325-001
Combo Adapter
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 WLAN module 631956-001
Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 WLAN module 670290-001
Intel Centrino Wireless-N + WiMAX 6150 WLAN module 633817-001

Search these replacement part numbers on eBay.

If you don't go with the original, you'll probably want the 6230 WLAN module or Atheros 9485GN as these are up to 300mbps... though the intel one is 2.4ghz/5ghz and the atheros one is only 2.4 ghz

Heck you could try buying one of each, as they're 5-6$ on ebay

The Atheros 9485 above says its 1x1 which would only be 150Mbit, which if you're stuck on 2.4Ghz to remain legally compliant with neighboring networks would likely drop to 20Mhz channel width so actually be 75Mbit (which in real world could be much less than that, depending on interference).

I'd probably be looking at the Intel 6230 myself as its 2x2.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7
