Samsung EVO 970 ssd won’t fit in my Alienware R1

Ryan760

Hello I’m new to the forums and looking for help.   I’m trying to fix up a 2015 Alienware R1 that has 2 open M.2 ssd slots.   I bought a 256gb Samsung 970 EVO ssd and it doesn’t seem to fit.   It looks like it should just slide in as the one notch even lines up but the plastic notch on the laptop seems a little to wide.    Thanks for any help I’m a novice when it comes to this.

Are you sure you are not looking at an Msata slot?

Otherwise. You should be able to insert an m.2 ssd into an m.2 slot by holding it at 45 degrees, sliding it in and then it can go down.

Is this the correct slot?   I was trying slot 1.

NGFF definitely is M.2, not msata. The pins also signify M.2 to me..

It almost looks like the plastic notch on slot 2 is narrower even.

You'd probably have to contact Dell for this, tbh..

Ok, thanks.   Funny I put a new screen in it and that was much easier than anticipated and what I thought was going to be a 5 minute job has turned into this odd mess.   I’ve watched several videos with this exact same type of install and I’ve paused the video and didn’t see any notches like that.
