@Origami Cactus Ya. I was thinking about that but if maybe i can shave a few bucks in getting a WD blue that can be enough for my needs that would be great. If i get a Blue, its not much of a downgrade i guess. Am i right?

You get 2 years of warranty instead of 5, but that is ok. You are talking about a 1-2TB hdd right? Then the performance of the 2 will be very similar.

What drive would you guys recommend?

Barracudas or WDs (both have 64mb cache, 7200 rpm)

Here in my country, they are in the same price range ~40-45$. i would like to have an insight which drive is much better.

I already have an SSD for my OS boot drive. HDD will be used for mainly gaming. Thanks in advance.

They are both identical. Go with whichever you like more.

They aren't in terms of reliability. While I generally don't support brand loyalty, WD has made a name for themselves in reliability with hard drives, especially when compared to Seagate.

I'd definitely take a WD Blue drive over a Seagate Barracuda any day.

Seagate had one accident like 7 years ago.

WD also has had failures.

In terms of consumer drives, they both have the same failure rates, so absolutely no difference.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

No need to worry. Some people just hate seagate.

Just go with whatever brand you like more, they will last the same amount of time.

Ya. I've read a lot of forums and the notion on hating Seagate drives are rampant. That is why im asking before i buy an HDD. Thanks for the response.

I'm not sure. This is why I said I'm against brand loyalty. There are no good or bad brands in tech, just good or bad products. If you're happy with it then it's probably fine.

On a less scientific note, I do computer repairs and almost every drive I've seen fail in the past 4 years has been a Seagate, with only one being WD. That's purely anecdotal evidence though.

Seagate continues to have higher fail rates, double of what WD has. While both rates are less than 1% (and therefore likely a non issue either way), but when they're priced the same it's better to get the one with a slightly lower chance of failure.

I never claimed WD is perfect. Their WD Blue drives are very reliable though, and a safe bet to buy.

A warning, the WD Black is super loud. It's an enterprise drive, so noise doesn't really matter for the intended audience. They're a little faster, but I don't think it's worth it. Also make sure you get a 7200RPM WD Blue. A couple years back they phased out their slower WD Greens and rebranded them as 5400RPM variations of the Blue drive.

Oh okay. Im aware that i should get the high cache, high rpm (64mb, 7200 RPM). the noise is the one i didnt knew about. I might get the blue instead. especially i like to minimize the noise coming from the unit. Thanks.
