so i have my LG v30 not even a year now and i already have my 2nd warranty case. first the camera focus got stuck and now the screen does weird trippy red lines at the top whenever i display white background content with smaller colorful images (you know...like any website ever) if the screen brightness is set to less than 40 percent.

anyway i thought about maybe selling it after it gets repaired for the 2nd time just so my warranty doesnt run out and then the next thing happens.

can anyone recommend me a good build quality phone.

i mostly only care about the OLED screen but i have to say having a wide angle camera for the first time was pretty amazing so maybe that too. budgt unclear but not more than the LG V30. so i guess 400 max. but prefferably less. i just dont want to have to worry about it all the time.

I second these options.

I just would take the Vivo V15 Pro away, beause you can't really buy it in Germany, except from a third party shop over Amazon (for 415€, which is too much in my Opinion).

Also, i don't really see what it does better than the Mi 9T. Similar size, bigger battery, better SoC, more known device (for stuff like regular Updates. It's known that xiaomi is quite good here), and you can buy it from the bigger german Shops so you won't ha ve any warranty problems if anything happens.

A50: Decent device, but "only" 4gb Ram. Which is not that bad, since it costs only 270-280€~. still, performance wise (Multitasking), 6gb phones will be better.

Also, "only" a inferior Exynos SoC. Snapdragon > Exynos (also because of Custom Roms~) atm. But still, it's a midrange phone.

Probably the 48MP Sony sensor is also better than what Samsung builds in the A50/A70.

I would consider A50/A70 over Xiaomi, if you're a samsung-guy, and like the UI.

If going OLED I'd never go with anything but Samsung. They generally get the best panels. The A series is a solid choice, often getting features that later work their way into S class models, albeit with slightly inferior components.

I'd add that Samsung does put their panels in other phones, so if OP can confirm that their phone's panel was produced by Samsung he could get very close to the same quality.

and how the hell would i confirm that? also i think lg makes their own panels. they are just not as experience witth the smaller oleds yet as id imagine samsung being. just cause they been doing it longer.

so im still not sure because feature wise i love the v30 and it just today got the update to android 9 but i am still worried that there goinna be some incident after this one even and then im screwed

the a70 look to be my closest contender though

I'm not sure if you're asking in anger or not, but to confirm what parts were made where I'd simply do a Google search. As an example, I found out that my Pixel 3a was mainly designed by HTC, manufactured by Foxconn with a panel by Samsung. And yes LG makes great panels as well, I owned the V20 and loved it. I honestly just wanted to add to what that previous user said, I really don't have much input for either of your choices since I'm not familiar with them. Just wanted to throw out some more info in case others were curious.

If I upset you in anyway that was not my intent.

Samsung generally doesn't give their best panels away to other manufacturers, even at a flagship level.

LG doesn't make as good as a panel as Samsung, with the big issue being burn in and colour evenness for LG phone panels. Samsung seems to have better quality control and better technology that prevents burn in on their phone panels compared to LG, and their screens seem to have better colour accuracy and evenness.

On the TV side of things, it's a bit of toss up.

Maybe you can tell us what other things you'd like to have or not have on your new phone. Any things you can't afford to lose. What your usage pattern is like. Specific capability or target levels to achieve. Any other major complaints you have about your V30 apart from whats been said.

well i dont give a shit if the back is glass or not. the downward facing speaker is not really all tht great. although i care not nearly as much about that than the also downward facing mic on the other side of the usb port. somehow i alsways end up covering it with my finger while talking. i do like the wide angle camera and the camera implementation as a whole. i do use the quad dac quite alot also. and battery life is usually a point with me but i am quite happy with the v30 for that. i mostly go through the day surfing the web, taking calls and pictures, sending the latter via whatsapp. the usual shit. when im really really bored ill play some idle clicker games late at night but thats about it.

Also it would be helpful if you can confirm the availability and price of the options I listed earlier. Europe is a big place. Consider shipping and any cross border fees that may be applicable. I am not in touch with the availability and price of goods in Europe.

here it goes

OLED screen

Wide angle camera

Under 400 Euro

Options:

  • Xiaomi Mi 9T
  • Vivo V15 Pro
  • Galaxy A70/A50

the 9T carbon black is the cheapest variant i can see and that goes for 312.99 but im not about to get a stupid slider mechanic camera on a phone. what is this 2004

the vivo v15 pro is much harder to get and goes for 415 but again i got the same issue with it.

the a50 goes for 265 and the a70 is 330

i look up all my pricing at geizhals.de or you can use skinflint.co.uk for a english version of the site and you can still select germany as a availability target

i have read the same thing about the oleds on phone. i think its just that samsung has more years of experience in oleds of that size. and while test maybe right i really couldnt find anything to fault them for on the oled side. well except it failing now but viewing quality is really good to me.

on the tv side i might argue that samsung isnt really doing oleds in their tv. unless i missed something i was under the impression samsung used almost exclusively VA panels. also rtings regularly gives them shit for backlight dimmning being not as good as others and accuracy being off. although raw color volume is always great i think lg's oleds still come ahead in their tests

You dont have to slide anything. It mechanically pops out whenever the front camera is in use. On that note, how often do you take selfies, and do you intend to use face unlock?

selfies are rare but do happen also a little bit of streaming but thats not the point. wether i do it manually or its electric its still a slider mechanic and just another point of failure. also no face unlock i prefer the fingerprint
