...There's a chance I won't be overclocking very high and will have to put some focus on cooling the case as well. I am deciding between the upcoming Dark Rock pro 3 and Kraken x60. Do I need to bother with an AIO or will air cooling suffice? Maybe I'll win the lottery and get a nice cpu and perhaps I will need sufficent cooling....who knows. I'm brand new at this and don't make alot of money. Sometimes I wonder if water in my build is a bright idea. Plus, that air cooler will block a lot of the mobo that I wanted to be viewable.

I can pretty much guarantee the Dark Rock pro 3 will not be able to compete with the X60. No heatsink is close to the X60, what makes you think that will suddenly change?

I think the x60 will perform somewhat better but the Pro 3 will be much quieter.

$1900. I'm already over budget and I'd like to not go any higher.

Will either one sufficiently cool my rig? Considering the Haswell is steamy and hardly overclockable....

haswell actually doesn't produce that much heat, it's just that intel decided to put the VRM on it and use crappy thermal paste

Oh I see.....well, which one would be more eye candy in my build? I think I'm going to lace the white leds next to the window and I wonder if that hunk of metal would even look appealing.

Dark rock pro 3 is better in your situation.

You're not going to any extreme jigahertz, the x60 will be slightly cooler under moderate overclock conditions, but the dark rock pro 3 will be much quieter and still well within tolerable temperatures. DRP3 is also sexy.

(in a silent case I assume that's what you want)

Well the styling is entirely subjective. I'm sure it isn't hard to look up some build pictures with a similar cooler installed. Both will work really well, the rest is really up to preference and pricing.

P.S.

Lateralus is totally my favourite album from those guys. I think imma put that on for a bit

What's up with some of the builds that have the cooler blowing out of the top end of the case instead of the backside?

they just did it on a whim, liked the name in correct orientation, or had clearance issues the other way

it can be mounted either way if you for some reason want to mount it a different way.

I'm not sure what the dude who put that together was thinking. the only way that would work is if he put both of the radiator fans in pull instead of push.

For positive pressure which would be the best way for it?

You forgot.. It's acutally CHEAPER.. hes already over budget, so getting a expensive AIO is not well... great at all

Yeah, there's not much fooling myself here. I will possibly oc the ram and the cpu just the slightest and that shouldn't call for any water cooling. (correct me if I'm wrong)

The DRP3 seems to be the answer.
