Best cooling solution for an i7 4790k

About half a year ago i really felt the urge of upgrading my cpu, but recently i figured that the performance is still enough for my personal usecase and that i'll still be fine with my beloved 4790k for quiet some time. I'm running it at 4.6GHz with an adaptive vcore (max. 1.264V). Since i'm playing at 1080p 144Hz my cpu load is usually pretty high which leads to temperatures of 65-78° while gaming. I would definitely enjoy further tweaking to get the most out of my cpu. I use the Scythe Mugen 5 since about a year and have replaced the thermal paste recently but i'm looking for the absolute best cooler (max. 150€). Will there be any thermal benefits from upgrading to a beefy aio? Should i start thinking about delidding aswell ?

A beefy tower performs the same as a beefy water cooler, it's all about the surface area. The Mugen 5 is pretty huge

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I’d get a cheap delid tool. If you have the cash and room for a nice aio, I’d do that. Simply to help with the card temps in a normal system.

Never got to delid my 4790k but it ran hot for what it was and always had high usage. 90-100% while gaming.

Main RIg Corsair Air 540, I7 9900k, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero, G.Skill Ripjaws 3600 32GB, 3090FE, EVGA 1000G5, Acer Nitro XZ3 2560 x 1440@240hz

Spare RIg Lian Li O11 AIR MINI, I7 4790K, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, G.Skill Ares 2400 32Gb, EVGA 1080ti, 1080sc 1070sc & 1060 SSC, EVGA 850GA, Acer KG251Q 1920x1080@240hz

the Ncore V1? :P not available yet and not officially supported but i backed it anyway because i crave the no IHS life xD

Best waterblock i know you could get should be the Watercool Heatkiller IV Pro for like €45 here in Europe. Pair that with a thicc rad, nice fans and a delid and you have about the best you can do resonably. Getting a used rad and a used pump and you could probably do it for under $150 tbh

a vice, a block of wood and a hammer did the job on mine hehehe….

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
