Hey Linus tech tips forums.

im soon going to be building my very first pc, its not only going to be the first pc i build its also going to be my very first gaming pc.

Im going to go for an AMD 8350 paired with a Noctua NH D-14 for overclocking. I was first going to go with the Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P Mobo but somone told me that it had bad power something something. He recomended me some other board an Asus M5A99X Evo R2.0 but he dident really explain why its better, i know that it has a better overclocking chipset but AMD cpu´s should be pretty easy to overclock, can you guys help find a good mobo wile still explaining to me why its better. Thanks in advance :D

Edit: Budget for mobo is around 120 dollars, just take into consideration that im from europe and we have slightly higher prices

990FXA-UD3. 8+2 phases. Latest revesion doesn't have AMD AMP swich so your CPU will throtle when stressed with intel burn test and prime95. In real world scenarios, the performance will be the same with or without AMP (cinebench for example)  Also your mobo NB hill get hot...but that's by design. A good cheap well featured board overall. But just don't go insane with the overclocks.

Yes, avoid 970 boards for 83XX chips.

I am currently in a similar situation, I have a fx 8320 running in a Asus M5A78L-M/USB3.

I really want to overclock the CPU and really like the Sabre-toothed but I also found this MSI board.  http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/motherboards/amdam3plus990fx990xchipset/atxformfactor/990fxa-gd65.html

All I can say is that I have the Gigabyte UD3 and am happy with it apart from it throttling when folding or running Boinc.

I am returning it to Overclockers UK (Who are brilliant) and getting the Sabertooth.  I know it will still have the same issues but a lot less.

Nothing to see here - move along.
