Another Hyper 212+ Evo comparison...

So, long story short I'm thinking of purchasing an air cooler to overclock my 3570k, and keep it much cooler than the terrible stock heatsink.

 

There's a newegg.com coupon code going around for %20 off certain air coolers; such as, the Phanteks PH-TC12DX, and the Noctua NH-U12S.

 

THe phanteks Ph-tc12DX is 20% off making it 40 dollars even, and the noctua is 55 ish dollars with the coupon.

 

Is it worth it to spend a little extra and get the phanteks, or noctua over the hypder 212+ Evo? Due to case size restrictions I can't get something about 160mm tall (using a CM N200).

 

I'm leaning towards the phanteks for sheer performance per dollar that it provides for the extra 5 dollars.

 

I HATE LOUD ASS FANS. Would i be better off getting the noctua, and simply buy something nice once and forget about it. Back up your arguement please just saying "get the 212 evo" is not really a good response.

I would recommend getting the Hyper 212 Evo With a Noctua fan, Such as the NF-F12 It will be cheaper and good for the price.

Edit: Derp i just did the pricing more expensive. I haven't had any experience with Phanteks but looks like it is good.

The larger phanteks version keeps my 4960x at 55*c about at medium load, so I would say that the smaller one would be a really good buy. But the fans on mine are at full RPM

My old 3570K only hit 60C -70C Max at 4.4GHz 1.06V with this cooler. I still have it on my 3930K and it still manages to cool it well 4GHz 1.2V @ 80C

212 evo is very silent im using it on 3570k and it is only bit humming when it is running its max speed but nothing annoying.

Phanteks cooler for $40! 
The 140mm version of that same Phanteks cooler is very beastly and very quiet.

If you have the money and don't mind expending a little bit, the Noctua NH-U12S will be the best performing of the three you listed, and it's also inaudible.

I would personally get the Noctua because I know their performance and build quality is totally worth the money but the Phantek gets my vote here because it is only $50 and it has 2 fans included compare to only 1 for the Noctua.

 Well it's actually 40 because of the 20% off coupon. I did purchase he phantek cooler because of it's price, and overall cooling performance. If worse comes to worse I'll just change the coolers default fan speeds with Asus' Fan Xpert II. However, the noctua I'd rather not buy because it is that much more expensive.

Only $40? Hey I'd buy it in a heartbeat.That is really freakin cheap. I forgot where I read about it, apparently both phantek and noctua coolers are produced in the same factory, so quality wise I think is not a problem. I've used the 212 Evo before to cool a light oc'd i5 2500K and it was not that quiet at all, even after tinkering the settings in the bios. And I hate the way the cooler moves around even after mounting it properly.

Alrighty then, thanks for the input LTT forum members! Even though it is a white cooler I don't have a side panel, and it sits underneath my desk, so I don't i'll ooo, and awww over my white cooler with slightly conflicting color scheme. The other blue, red, and black versions of the cooler were more expensive. Supply, and demand at it's best? I didn't see a difference in hardware, or tech specs. The 212 evo is just that, a good budget cooler; however, I think it's goes straight for performance rather than various other quality options. As well as, it's overclockability for the ivy bridge series CPUs.
