At microcenter, a 9900k + decent board = 449$ + 149$ (aorus pro)

vs

3800X (399$) + decent board (aorus pro) = 399+199.

So if you already had a cooler, then you might even want to go intel if they have the 15% price drop (400$), and you don't care about PCIe 4.0

Still 3700x destroys, getting that + aorus elite (jesus christ why are motherboards so damn expensive. Might even go with something like the M7 ac, or the X470 Gaming 7)

Microcenter also has 2700x at 200$ and 30$ off motherboards

Take the 249$ and 50-100$ you save on CPU and upgrade your video card from a RTX 2060 / 1660ti to a 2070 or 2080 super...

You forget the 100$ B450 tomahawk is a thing...,..

Which is atm the go to, cheap mobo for third gen. That also includes the mortar which is the same board but smaller.

I really don't want to stick a 400$ proc on a 4+2 vrm board...

I factored in the mobo cost reduction already, and 2700X =/= 3800X/9900k, not by a long shot.

Its a good 4+2 VRM. It can handle a decent 2700x OC no problem.

And the 2700x is still seemingly the highest powerconsumption Ryzen CPU. At least im the 8 core category.

Well, first post on this forum.  Earlier this week bought a Asus Prime x370 pro board at Microcenter for 55 US dollars, then just bought today the 3700x for 340 out the door *Microcenter cc*.  The biggest thing is just paying attention to which board has a good VRM.  Mine is getting the full 4.4ghz with the AIO I am currently using with good Temps.    The x570 boards are just in an odd place in the market.

Your board's VRM heatsink is undersized, be careful with its temperature.

but there are less features, And if I'm going to spend 500$, might as well spend 550$ for something like a X470-Prime Pro (the one that buildzoid likes). Also that board IMO is kinda ugly.

then do that.......

but you can still get a very decent board for 100$ and overclock it. thats arguing with value, not "i dont like it" arguing.

BZ says that the B450 Tomahawk is meh, and kinda sketch. I wouldn't trust a 2700X on it.

Let me fix that for you..

He actually recommends it for overclocking a 2700X.. Maybe more research next time?

How do i delete this? I'm on mobile. Was just trying to post a video not do this

Also note that amd has said b450 and b550 will provide same performance.

Also note that other youtubers have verified this.

Might as well buy a x570 board at that price.

watched it already :D

Not about performance, its about VRM. a 50$ H310 board (on intel) with a 9900k should "perform" the same as a Z390 board (no MCE/OC), but the VRMs might explode.
