G233 Prodigy MIC not working

My friend just bought a pair of G233 Prodigy's. When using the braided PC cable and the included splitter the microphone doesn't work. If they're connected directly in the motherboard, the computer recognizes the mic but you can't hear anything. If they're connected in the case's audio ports, the mic isn't even recognized by the PC. But if the microphone is connected directly to the motherboard (not even connected to the headset) , it works. I've done around an hour worth of troubleshooting and I still can't get the mic to work. The only thing that comes to mind is that the audio splitter might be defective, but the audio works fine.

 

Any help would be really useful
