PC RAM Upgrade

I want to upgrade my RAM from 8 GB 2133Mhz with RAM 16 GB 2400 Mhz

 

Should i just remove the 8GB 2133 Mhz or i just combine them become 24 GB ?

You can, but you'll have to set it all to 2133 (or OC the old RAM to 2400).

 

It may also not be compatible.

 

Give it a go see if it works together and then memtest86 it.

If i dont want do OC can i just use the 16 GB 2400 Mhz and remove the 8GB 2133 Mhz

Yep, but make sure to check bios settings.

You can combine them assuming you haven enough ram slots, however the 2400mhz ram will only run at 2133.

you should remove 2133 ram and use 16gb in a dual channel. But I am curious tho, why did you not get another stick of 8gb ram? 2133 and 2400 really doesnt make that big of a difference. Is this ddr3? What board is it? If it is an old z77 or z67, not many of those can function on 2400. If it is a ddr4, I am sure most boards support those speeds.

first off man, you do not want to run in a single channel mode. you want to make sure that it runs in a dual channel. This means that either two sticks or four sticks. you don't want one stick or three sticks. Just get another 2133. But I think you should overclock them. You need to look for a stick with around cas 10 or 11.

Depends. Intel CPU's it does not make a big difference, but for AMD's Ryzen CPU's, the RAM speed can affect your overall performance when doing CPU intensive tasks like rendering, workstation and even gaming. In normal scenario's like web browsing or working in Excel it wont make much of a difference.
