What cpu should I get ? AMD or Intel ?

I’m looking to buy a cpu for purely gaming around the budget of $140 and less for the cpu alone. What’s the better option AMD or intel and which one specially should I get? Also if it matters what so ever I have an rx 570 4gb. Use microcenter as the reference for prices.

Are Ryzen processors less power effiecient than intel ?

Ryzen 1600 at $80 is an unbeatable value, but Ryzen 2600 is faster. Intel's i5-9400F is a better gaming processor than either, but it's only got a slight lead and it's a 6C/6T CPU so in theory it might not age as well (my crystal ball isn't sure though). I wouldn't really consider the other CPUs for a gaming PC, although Ryzen 1700X is not bad (just not as good at 2600 for gaming specifically).

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X | Thermalright Le Grand Macho RT | ASUS ROG Strix X470-F | 16GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB @3400MHz | EVGA RTX 2080S XC Ultra | EVGA GQ 650 | HP EX920 1TB / Crucial MX500 500GB / Samsung Spinpoint 1TB | Cooler Master H500M

I might just go with the i5 9400f I’ve heard good things also I only have a 430 watt psu.

Power consumption isn't noticeably different, especially in games:

it's a very hard choice for me between the 1600 for 79.99 or the 1700 for 129.99, i'm assuming you are gaming in 60fps in which 95% of the time the 1600 is enough, it's the % difference for the additional core that im considering. I was just joking yesterday about the 1600 going down to 75bucks too lol, only go intel if ur gaming above 60fps, and even if that's the case, you can just get the 1600 with a x470 mortar and wait for zen 2, don't even have to upgrade right away.

to sum it up, i'd go 1600, x470 mortar, 16gb ram with the cheapest nvme ssd you can find, if you are itching for the 1700, upgrade in a year or 2 when needed.

If you are gaming above 60hz (AAA), just wait for zen 2 release.

I've always been a little unclear on B360 boards with 9th gen CPUs ("Coffee Lake Refresh"). It should have the new BIOS update and therefore work with the newer CPU. But if it's been on a shelf for six months it might not have the new BIOS, so you'd need an 8th-gen CPU to update the BIOS. All I can come up with is "maybe?" Perhaps Microcenter can help you with that.

A Z390 board will definitely work as it's a newer chipset released with the 9th gen CPUs, but they do cost more.

That particular B360 board is fine, you don't need a fancy board for a locked i5 CPU so any board works if it's got enough USB ports/m.2 slots/PCIe slots/whatever you want.

Sorry I can't give a definitive answer there.
