How much will improvement to justify buying Ryzen 3600?

I'm currently eying a budget orientated Ryzen 2600 build, only waiting for the Ryzen 3600 to release, but with the Ryzen 2600's price around $140 (possibly even lower), I'm waiting for the benchmark before pulling the trigger, but in theory, how much of an improvement from the 2600 to 3600 to justify going for the 3600?

At the same clock speed it should be 15% better. Now if it is running at a high speed that will get better

Justification is entirely dependent on you. It's not something you really ask others.

I wouldn't get a 2600 if the 3600 is an option.

Careful, that is 2700X to 3800X, not a direct uptick from one gen to the next.  Should be 2700X to 3700X to be apples to apples.

we wont know because while AMD does say 15 or is it 18% IPC gains, we dont know how high it can overclock nor the actual retail prices. It could also carry terrible bugs because that's what AMD do most of the time. We can only wait and see.

 

@jstudrawa I'd call that close enough, the 2700X is aggressively clocked out of the box so if there's any advantage on binning, it will be on 2nd gen's flavour rather than 3rd gen

Well, you will get 15% boost from $60 difference, almost half of the price.

AMD price cuts are insane.

If you game, you'll absolutely love the performance, even more if you OC.

But if not, that 2600 still good.

The 1600 is even cheaper at $100.

What is your performance target? The 3600 with its improvements will help a lot with high refresh rate gaming and modern AAA titles, but casual 1080p 60fps gaming is fine on a 2600

Most of the games they showed also rely on single core performance.

I don't see how you would know that.

 

If you need to go up one sku to get the performance increase, then the 3700X must be a lesser increase?  So they artificially skew charts.  

 

Or did they drop everything down a sku?  The 3800X is the successor to the 2700X and the 3700X is the successor to the 2600X?

 

I would prefer they kept things in line, personally.
