Am i getting scammed

so im selling stuff on let go for 500 one man says hell pay with check and send it through mail and after i get it he said then we can arrange a pick up.. hes asking me for my address and name

500 isn't really a lot in most currencies I imagine. Very likely a scam.

DO NOT give him your address, agree to meet at a mutual location in a public space, and if possible were there cameras. Also if he plans to mail the check ahead of time do two things 1.) make sure the check is for the amount agreed upon 2.) have he check verified by the bank before cashing it.

Tell him you will need a copy of his government issue photo ID before agreeing

Tell him you'll need to first mail him a check for $1000 to deposit and then he can pay you the $500 back in cash and keep the other $500 as a good faith payment for helping the International Monetary Fund of Kenya make a donation to the Blind Africans for Free Education Society.

 

Yes, it is a scam or he's super old and completely clueless like Mr. Magoo. But it's probably a scam. Tell him to bring cash and meet in the parking lot of a police station. They're always on camera and if there's any problems well the police are literally right there.

You're getting scammed. Meet in public, cash only, or at least a secure transaction method like Interac eTransfer.

 

If you accept the cheque, it will appear to clear only to bounce later. Or they'll write the cheque for $5000.00 hoping you'll cash it, not notice the mistake, then give their "courier" the difference back in cash as a "refund" of the difference, after which your bank will discover the cheque was fraudulent or bounced.
