Is it possible to encrypt bootable flash drive

I have a flash drive with a bootable kali image on it and I was wondering if it is possible to have the data protected without impeding the boot process

Not easily if you want a live disk. 

 

You can install kali on a usb and encrypt it with luks.

 

You can encrypt all your files with something like encfs, the programs probalby don't need to be encrypted.

 

You can get a self encrypting usb drive.
