Dual Monitors

I have 2 monitors which both only have HDMI inputs, but I only have 1 HDMI output. Is there a way to get separate signals to the monitors?

For reference monitor (not primary) I have just converted DVI output to HDMI with a converter dongle.

 

you can find a converter for pretty much anything on eBay.

 

even some pretty obscure ones! RS233 to HDMI? Probably one for that somewhere...

I have 1 HDMI, 1 DVI-D, 1 VGA. The DVI and VGA are both in use though

1 PCIE x16 and 1 PCIE x1 but I don't have the budget for a decent graphics card at this time

Something of that price would probably have worse graphics than my current AMD Ryzen 5 2500G

If you're doing dual monitors, it all depends on what you want.  Just make sure you set it to extend the displays in Windows.  (I'm assuming this is on a PC)

It is on a PC, it would actually be triple monitors as I would be keeping my current monitor connected to VGA

the adapter would probably cost the same as a secondhand nvidia gpu. considering hes using VGA i dont think 4k is a requirement  eighter

If he's using a Ryzen APU though, the GPU he'd get for a (at most) $10 adapter would perform way worse than the Vega graphics he has.

A 7 USD cable is probably easier to use though, plus I can't imagine you get a usable GPU for 7 USD second hand.

for outputting a display? wouldn't he lose more performance by hooking up more shit to the apu ? does the apu get disabled if you install a gpu ?

The integrated graphics get disabled, yes.  Regardless of fancy name, an APU is just a CPU with integrated graphics from AMD.

And no, with modern GPUs, even integrated, you don't lose performance with two or even three displays.

I guess it’s worth trying the HDMI splitter route, I did some googling and it came back that it was possible to use a splitter and then extend the monitors.

 

If that fails then a second cheap GPU to just give you an extra HDMI output is an option but probably has many drawbacks if it’s own.

 

I would personally go down the splitter route first and have fun trying to get it to work. Just make sure it’s not a switching one which only allows one at a time but a true signal splitter.
