Has the E8600 core2duo got any life left in it?

Just grabbed an old dell vostro and was contemplating upgrading it, recasing it and shifting it on.

the max processor it supports is the E8600, my thoughts are that this is too weak for any sort of gaming even fortnite, so therefore not worth bothering with.

Anyone care to confirm/deny this who has experience of the core2duo processors? I

Not even Half Life 2

Actually source games run super well on old hardware like that, for a retro gaming PC it wouldn't suck.

Don't forget, half life 2 came out in 2004, it'd be a surprise if a core 2 duo couldn't handle it

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Specifically, what dell vostro is it? I remember when I had two of those and was able to put q9650s in them with no issues.

I wouldn't upgrade a machine that old these days, it's simply not worth it.

With a decent video card lots of games will play, but maybe not online multiplayer.

Think turn based stuff like heroes of might and magic, point and click, adventure,story/puzzzles like syberia/the longest journey/monkey island, games like neverwinter nights/dungeon siege/torchlight , tycoon/sim games like simcity, transport / railroad tycoon, openttd, city management games... rts games like dune, red alert, warcraft etc

it could still be a usable machine. could broaden your life with more diverse games not just fortnite crap.

A <50$ card would work great, a RX 460 or some old nVidia equivalent.

Could also consider donating it to a poor family if a kid is interested in programming or other things but family is too poor to buy pc (and don't want to buy xbox/ps4 just for games)... maybe ask a teacher at school near you
