Yep. You're pulling air very fast past a lot of electrically charged components. That'll cause static and bzzz, There is a dead PC.

no, no, no, no, nooo. don't do that, please! yup, as others confirmed can build up static inside the case from the dust particles. That vacuum motor isn't too friendly with electronic components, too. Use a can of compressed air and a small soft brush to clean out dust from corners and cracks in the case  :D

If it has an option to blow air instead of suck that would work, I use a shop vac.

That's even smarter, so you can blow debris onto your PC components!

No, please, for your wallet, don't do it!

I don't really see what you mean? Its just like using canned air, except free.

The ones which have a blow feature have filters that prevent particles from being put through. How else to air compressors work?

I usually use a vacuum cleaner at a pretty far distance to catch the free flying dust after it has been blown out of the components by compressed air in order to not make my room that dusty. But if you are using a vacuum cleaner purely for cleaning the components as an alternative to compressed air, I wouldn't recommend it.

Just use a compressed can of air to clean it off. Make sure you spray your computer outside. You don't want to be breathing the air from the can.

If you have an air purifier/filter then by all means do it indoors. I can do mine indoors because I have a Winix air filter.

I've been vacuuming my PCs for the last 10 years

Not saying there is zero risk (I don't know)... just that I do it pretty comprehensively and I am yet to fry anything

My HAF 932 acts just like a vacuum, maybe if I just reverse all the fans for a couple days it'll clean it out? :P

They make vacuums for electronics: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Static/Home/ProductCatalog/?PC_Z7_U00M8B1A0O54D0AGRH72992BG5000000_nid=FWNKJDPMK7beWM6QHTHD0Hgl

They have conductive hoses/tips so that it won't build up static.

Personally I'd use a house vac before an air compressor due to all the moisture from a compressor.
