Finished my first build from the ground up!

Hey guys!

First time posting, long time lover of everything LMG. And I wanted to demonstrate what I've learned from LMG in this video. Including nearly breaking stuff!

Today is the day! I have finally put the finishing touches on my first ever PC build from the ground up. All new parts (except one) and boy... has it been stressful! I could list everything that went wrong... so I will!

1. The motherboard BIOS update to try and get the most out of my RAM bricked an m.2 sata drive and a 3TB HDD.

2. I ripped the CPU out of the motherboard when trying to replace the stock heatsink with an AIO.

3. The machine wouldn't boot after the above, it came down to a RAM stick being slightly loose.

4. Drivers for my webcam wouldn't work, but I just upgraded it and now its gucci.

5. Sound drivers took about 30 windows updates to finally work effectively.

6. Lost a screw for the CPU cooler bracket and only found it when I went to a wedding 4 hours later... it fell out of a fold in my cargo shorts while I was on the toilet. I had already been at a wedding in a field and dancing around. HOW THE HECK IT STAYED ON MY BODY THAT LONG I HAVE NO IDEA!!!

That's a short list, but everything is now fully functional and oh man... does this baby run and look gooooooooooood.

Firstly some specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X

MOBO: ASUS ROG STRIX X370F GAMING

RAM: 16GB (2x8) T-Force 3200mhz

GPU: GTX 1080

Case: CoolerMaster H500

Other parts:

Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite 240

Antec Prizm 120mm RGB fans

Antec cable mods

I have loved and hated this process, but I am so damn happy with the result. My thermals are great (under load 50C on CPU and GPU is about average), no load CPU sits around 35-40 and GPU around 40. If I were to do it again I'd pick a newer motherboard to get full use out of my RAM and overclock the whole darn thing, but I'm keeping it at stock since it does everything I need it to quite comfortably. other than that... I'm in love. I'm so happy with this thing. So... Time for some PC porn? Have some pictures!

Looks absolutely stunning for a first build! Awesome work. :)

Whats bits of the build did you enjoy building the most, and what parts did you enjoy putting together the least?

Thank you! :) I'm glad its not just me who thinks its pretty haha. I spent a lot of time watching LTT, Jay, and Bitwit before I embarked on this one. So I was in good hands. (which is why I didn't watch the Verge). Kappa.

The parts I enjoyed the most were the aesthetics. I hate cables looking messy and a requirement from the outset for me was always going to be making it look good. Something I can peer at when I'm just doing basic stuff or while streaming and smile at. So aligning the fans, tidying cables, choosing my cable mods. That was all the best part for me.

My least favourite part was anything related to the CPU. When it ripped out of its socket I needed to change my underwear. I am loathe to ever touch the CPU again, even if I upgrade the motherboard. 0/10, wouldn't be that nervous again. Also, not touching BIOS on this board again. Trying to update it to utilise more of my RAM frequency and bricking some HDs was not fun.

TLDR; I like pretty lights, don't like messing with the CPU.

I love pinks especially when its good, very good build.

Thank you. The original goal was mostly pink with some light blue accents in a white build. That changed as I honed in on the best thermal case. Im very happy with how it turned out.

Although the project name doesn't suit anymore, so need a new name for this beast. (The working title was New Kyoto).

haha, never watched it so probably not for me. I'm not the best with names either. If you think of one, feel free to send it over :).

Ah yes, aesthetics! You and me both, when I was building my PC, I also set out to make it look as nice as possible on the outside and inside. :)

Oh man, that sounds horrible! Luckily I've never experienced either of those, touch wood.  Glad that you've managed to overcome both of these and resulted in a nice build, though.

It wont perform as well if its not pretty!!! :)

Do you have any posts with your build(s)? I'd love to see!
