okay so couple weeks ago my temps started rising while gaming to first 80C then 90C and now since one week they reach 101C till the gpu throttles and core clock reduces from 1050mhz to 450 mhz. today i took out the card to change the paste but apparently i can only unscrew 3 of the 4 screws. the screwdriver just doesn't sit on the 4th screw since the screw head has become round. i really dont know what to do. please help i wanna open this so i can change the pastee. thanks

Two things that work for me in these sort of situations

- Use a flathead screwdriver, one that fits pretty much perfectly within the screw, because you have less torque with a flathead

- Use a (thick) rubber band with your phillips head screwdriver, sometimes that gives you the little bit of extra grip you might need.

Use which ever method works out better for you. I prefer the former method (flathead), because it is just more reliable, but only if you have the right size flathead.

EDIT: just to be clear, I mean a rubber band like the top one here:

To add on to this, a piece of electrical tape on the head of the screw and then screwing has also worked for me

Forget the home remedies and head to your local hardware store and get a stripped screw extractor kit.

furthermore, replace the screws

Use paper and tape to mask the board off and use a Dremel to make a slot for a flathead screwdriver.

and for the love of all that is holy get a ifixit bit set. the only reason those screws look like that is because shitty or incorrect bits. pick up new screws ( try to get in contact with the brand that supplied the gpu or the store for repair parts )

how does that work exactly? can you show me what im looking for?

its basically a tap that you drill into the screw in lynx and then screw it out. optionally you can use a dab or two of superglue and glue the bit to the screw. bhut if you spill its pretty much stuck in there forever xD

Make sure you're using the correct size phillips bit and then dab some valve grinding compound on the screw and gently rotate the screwdriver back and forth a few times to work the compound in to the slots.  Then slowly try and unscrew, if it starts to slip then you'll have to try an easy-out or just drill the head of the screw off and use pliers to unscrew what's left.

It won't damage the card anymore than a screwdriver would, as long as you have steady hands. The one I'm talking about is basically a bit that wedges itself into the stripped section which you can then back out.
